That's okay if they sit on top of it :) they will pretty much do whatever they want lol. I have one that will sit on top of his warm hide, inside it, behind it, around it. And sometimes he even uses the plants vines as a cool "hide" he will climb up on the vines and just sit there I think he might even sleep up there sometimes. He's just weird and likes to do whatever. So don't worry :) he/she will go inside if he/she wants to.

My Mojave girl will flip both her hides over, and lay smack dab in the middle of her tub. By far strangest snake I have lol

Beautiful snake! In his mind he is hiding! Great picture. Thanks for sharing.

Some of my snakes prefer being wedged between their hide and the back of their tub instead of inside. They actually alternate day to day. My fire honeybee took a few months to even figure out what a hide box was.

    Very cute - and beautiful!
My BP will have his body in his hide, and his head out of it, under a giant fake leaf that he can see out from under, to check things out (I assume).

I'm guessing that this snake is in a rack? It's squashing itself between the shelf and the top of it's hide because it feels more secure. My guess is that your hide is too small.

Mine is never really in his hide..he is usually on top of it or behind it. Occasionally I'll find him in it.. But most the time he is behind it, cause I have a bunch of fake plants cluttered alla round it,so he hides in the bushes as wel, which is behind the hide,lol... He does what he likes

He actually fits in there comfortably, we just got the hides yesterday and that was the first time checking on him since putting it in there. now whenever I put him back in the tub he goes straight into the hide, and then alternates between on top and inside lol

My girl liked to get in her hot hide and on top of her cool hide. the cool hide was surrounded by fake plants so she could fee secure there. Now she is in a tub with out hides. I had hides in the tub and she never used them. I guess she feels secure just curling up in the aspen. She moves it out of the way to the tub bottom and lays on the bottom of the tub directly. i have some fake plants laying in there and she always picks a spot under them.
