Should I feed inside the habitat?
Hi everyone! I am new and have a noob question... This will be MY first time feeding my Spider BP and I was wondering if I should remove him from his cage and put him in a plastic tub to feed on the rat I give him or just put the rat in his cage and let him hunt it down? Thanks in advance!

long story short, yes. Leave him in the enclosure when you feed, there are more pros than cons.

I think there is more enrichment value to allowing them to hunt i their enclosure as well; makes it more like what they would get in the wild.

This has been debated since forever, almost as bad as the .45acp vs. 9mm.:P

I only feed in the habitat. There are plenty of pros and cons but in the end it comes down to one thing...If the big professional breeders feed in their natural enclosure and if it works for them, then it good enough for me.;)

I leave mine in the tub/rack they they live in. I don't see any cage aggression from it.

I feed in the enclosure as well. I have fed in separate containers before and moving the snake around is more likely to stress it and cause them not to eat.

    Simple answer is yes.

I feed all my snakes in their enclosure since I switched to f/t. I used to feed outside the enclosure when I fed live. I did actually see a difference in feeding outside of the enclosure, they did seem a bit more stressed when I moved them back, but I just waited a while till they were completely done eating and started roaming around before I would do so. But I firmly believe in feeding inside their home.

Oh and by the way, I'm a total .45 fan!!

    Feed in the enclosure.

And .45 & 9mm are both more than adequate with good shot placement. :D

My carry is the Glock 29sf. Same exact profile as the .45acp G30 and it holds 10+1!

Now let's really hijack this thread and get into the Glock vs. 1911 debate! :D

I'm comfortable with the Ruger LCP which carries a .380acp. I'm a tiny woman with arthritis...

I feed in a feeding tub. Has been for 5 years without problems. I feed live rat and I have one of those "designer enclosures" with plants and logs and rocks... Check out my avatar... One of the hides is a Snak Shack for rats! Anyway, because I feed live rat, I monitor each and every feeding and if I feed in the enclosure, the rat can hide under a rock/log/plant and even chew logs/shak/plants and poop and pee in the enclosure and it will take the snake all day to get to him. I can't sit there waiting all day... so off to the feeding tub they go.

6 Ball Pythons and 5 years...Number of times we got bit: 0. Number of times regurged: 0.

I have always fed my pythons in their enclosures, and have never had any problems with agression.

Glocks = ugly but go bang every time. 1911 = Purty but I don't trust them to go bang every time. I'll stick to my XDm 9mm with 20 rounds of +P 9mm HP's. :)

Everyone is diff. I feed in the tank and I've oly had him 3 weeks and he has never truck at me,beingi don't smell like a mouse.i been advised feed in the tank but know ppl who feed outside..I don't see the point of stressing the snake out after he eats to then pick him up and move him.

I've always fed in the enclosure. I was only bit once, and I'm 100% sure it's because she smelled the mouse, but saw my hand move, and thought she was adding 2+2 correctly. I now tong-feed instead of hand-feed just to minimize the risk of my hand getting nailed by mistake.

The only snake I feed outside of the enclosure is the Kenyan sand boa and that's because she's very, very bitey, so while she's eating, I am free to clean her enclosure. Since I'd have to remove her to clean anyway, might as well use that time to feed her. She devours her mouse within 5 minutes every single time.
