Black Pastel
I have a black pastel female that will be ready to breed soon. I was wondering what you guys recommend breeding her with. I don't want black pewter or black mojo. The only morph I can think of is super black pastel.
I'm curious to hear what you guys suggest. Please feel free to list multiple gene males. :)

Re: Black Pastel
Enchi Vanilla could be a nice clutch, possible triple an some nice doubles.
That is just the first thing that came to me.

Re: Black Pastel
I personally like the idea of breeding back to another Black Pastel or even to a Butter.

Re: Black Pastel
x2 on the butter. The high contrast between black and white with the extra random earth tone aliens thrown in the middle. It hits the right spot for me.

I also like the black pastel calico. The pictures on WOBP are a little confusing though. The two snakes (assuming it's two) look extremely different.

You thinking dom/codom or recessive?

Re: Black Pastel
If it was me I'd go for a leopard yellowbelly male.. :)

Yeah, I thought about a lesser (or butter) but I'm not sure if I should go for double gene. Might as well go for triple. I think my black pastel is a looker (sorry, I don't have a picture of her).

Enchi, Ivory, calico/sugar, butter/lesser

Butter Pastel would be nice

Breed her to a lesser or a butter.
I wouldn't mess around with black pastel x black pastel simply because of the risks of duck billing and the rare kinking, but with increased risks to me it's not worth it. I'd rather not do something that has known issues and run the risk of having to euthanize an animal.

I wonder if I find a super black pastel with no kink, is it possible that the offspring could be kinked?

You just don't see that many super black pastels or black pastel/cinnamons, not compared to the solid white snakes. And I really like the super blacks.
-
You dont see them because not many breed them because of the potential problems.

It's 'safer' to breed the leucistics. Less chances of genetic deformity.
A friend of mine hatched out a few 8 balls. 2/3s of them were deformed with spinal kinks and/or abnormal faces. Some had cleft pallets and deformed jaws. They physically couldn't eat so they were culled.
I don't know if his odds were just crappy, but if 2/3s of other Super Blacks/Cinnys had issues like his, then I could see how nobody would want to breed them in order to avoid such issues...
-
Yea. I've always wanted a Super Black Pastel but I could never risk it because I would hate to put down a snake that I knew in advance could have more chances of deformities.
