shody breeder?
So my new little guy arrived today, and while he is friendly and well started, is not the snake from the add and the guy even asked me what one I wanted in the picture... This snake wasnt even in the picture! I asked for the pastel male, im not even sure if this is pastel, or yellowbelly? And if it is pastel, will I still be able to get decent bumbles and other pastels from him which is what I plan when he's big enough?http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...1134_thumb.jpg

Re: shody breeder?
Did you by chance save a picture of the snake you DID want?...
That doesn't look like a pastel to me, and if it is, it's not a quality one.
-
Looks like a darker pastel to me. In shed to boot. As for YB we'd need pics of the bellys for that.
-
It looks like it could be a pastel that is deep in shed. I'd get him set up with good humidity and leave him for a few days. I'd say 4 or 5 days until he sheds based on that color and opacity. They can change in appearance dramatically when they're in shed so you may be surprised and realize it is one of the snakes from the picture after he sheds.
Come back after and take another pic to confirm.

Re: shody breeder?
Ahh. Shed would make sense!!

Re: shody breeder?
O, I didn't know that about pastels, thanks guys :-)

you can compare details of the side pattern, its like a fingerprint.
unfortunately what can be seen in your picture is one side of the snake that seems to be hidden in the picture the breeder provided.
in the upper left of the left snake in the picture the breeder provided, you see a larger section of some pretty unique pattern. going down from the head, one black dot distorted into an anvil-shape, then one distorted into a bone-shape, one elongated oval dot, one round dot, one oval dot, and another one distorted into an anvil-shape. and both anvil shapes have little black dots next to them. can you locate that on your snake? it should be on the left side of your snake, halfway down the body.
-
As mentioned the pattern is how you came confirm if it's the same snake. Yes its a pastel, just not a high quality one.
-
Re: shody breeder?
I'll try to compare pattern and see if he lights s up after shedding. It wouldn't be worth it for a refund since shipping was half his cost. Could he still produce nice pastels if he turns out to be a lower quality?
-
Re: shody breeder?
At first no he could not but through selective breeding, picking very pretty light females and holding back brighter males for a few generations, you could get some nice pastels. It will just take time. I would contact the breeder and let them know of the mistake and if they do not stand by their product you could try to get a refund/replacement for him. If not you could go through a different breeder and get a different one and just keep him as a pet.
-
I would personally be very ticked off if I didn't get the snake I asked and paid for. This is a business based on looks and genetics, and I want what I SPECIFICALLY want. Not a "stock" animal. If it's a pet then it's not a big deal but since you plan on breeding I would make a fuss about it
-
@OP
more pictures would be nice. Then we can see the side-pattern of your BP, and compare it to the section of side pattern in the picture the breeder provided.
right now everything your picture shows is hidden in the picture the breeder provided and vice versa. your pic shows one side, the pic from the breeder the other.
with pics showing more of your snakes pattern we can settle this issue with certainty.

Re: shody breeder?
I had a ugly Pastel and he gave me beautiful babies...
-
Pastels especially lower quality ones change a lot the first few months. it's possible it is the same snake but from several months back. still dirty pool not to update the picture but it might be the one you picked. on a side note it is also not hard at all to make a pastel look a whole lot better in a picture then it does in person.
-
Re: shody breeder?
The breeder's picture shows a pretty distinctive pattern right behind the head. OP does that look like yours? And yes, the right lighting can make a snake look a lot better in a picture than in person... but the opposite is also true, where sellers use crappy cell phone pictures...
-
Re: shody breeder?
After looking at the pattern, it is not either snake in the image, should I demand some short of compensation? Perhaps a discount on another animal or something of the like? Notice the pattern behind the head does not matchhttp://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...1141_thumb.jpghttp://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...9913_thumb.jpg

I agree: I don't think the snake you got is either of the two in the other photo you posted. Neck pattern is wrong.
I personally would be so very disappointed, upset, and angry if I didn't receive the snake I said specifically I wanted. I would contact the breeder and calmly explain the situation and see how they want to make it right with you. If the seller has any sense as a business person he/she will work with you to come to an agreement that will make you happy and satisfied. Good luck, let us know what happens.
-
Re: shody breeder?
Ouch. I truly hope the breeder makes this right for you! Good luck!
-
i agree, the pattern does not match, its not one of the two in the picture the breeder provided. the neck pattern is the easiest way to spot it.
so one thing is for sure: the breeder/seller is cutting corners. you asked for pictures of the BP you want to buy, and now the pictures just dont match the BP you got.
also it obviously had an incomplete shed now; but thats not necessarily the breeders fault, maybe your humidity was too low when the BP tried to shed, in the first pic you posted the BP is in shed but there is no incomplete shed.

Re: shody breeder?
That was all in the first day I had him, it is now day 2. My humidity wouldn't have effected that, he was already doing a partial that u couldn't see in the picture. I soaked him in warm water and got it all of now. In the shipping box, there was still pieces of Vermiculite, he never moved them from the hatchbox, also he arrived freezing cold, the guy didn't put a heat pouch or anything else for heat

Re: shody breeder?
So the pastel has now shed, he has a lot of high blushing with very light tan, how would u rate him between 1-10, this will help me decide to try to do an exchange or ask for a discount or so forthhttp://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...43_1_thumb.jpghttp://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...1157_thumb.jpg

Re: shody breeder?
4. I would exchange him.
Hes already really brown for a pastel that small. Quality babies should be bright yellow, not tan, orange, or brown.

He's not the worst pastel I've seen nor the best, and as mentioned unattractive adults can still throw attractive babies. I would still be upset with the principle though that you didn't get the snake you wanted and paid for: it's just very bad business. I'd still contact them about their mistake and see how they want to make it right with you.

^^^ This right here. And as someone mentioned before, I would talk to him calmly. It could have been a genuine mistake. Judging by what you have said about his condition when he arrived I am inclined to think otherwise, but I am not perfect by no means 100% correct. Also as stated before, if he has any business sense he will work with you to fix the problem to your satisfaction.

i would keep him, and publically shame the seller.
for the snake, i would say permanent residence it is. its yours, deal is done, every snake needs a home.
for the breeder, communicate with him, and if it doesnt work out then name him, and shame him, publically. put it all over the internet that this is a douchebag who cuts corners, and who sells hatchlings before they had their first meal. and make it known that he lies about the BPs he sells. that includes naming that bad apple here. maybe he just screwed up, give him the benefit of the doubt, innocent until proven guilty, but if his response to make this right is unsatisfying, then keep the snake and go and destroy his reputation. name him, his real name, name his website, and shame him.
the only reasons not to publically name, blame and shame him would be: Missing information, or Cowardice on your end, or pending lawsuits and trials.
-
I''ll probably hang on to him, he's still a nice snake, im just not happy about not getting the one I asked for and not as bright as I would have liked for my first morph projects. And I'll wait to disclose names until they pick up there phone or return my call and see what they are willing to do to make it right.

shody breeder?
It's a bad situation to be in for sure. We had a similar issue earlier but the seller removed the picture and said we got the right one and the picture we where looking at was a sibling that had already sold. We where not happy...

Re: shody breeder?
It definitely looks like a Pastel, but definitely does not look like either of the snakes in the Breeder's picture. I tried matching up the patterns, but neither of them look even close to the one that was sent to you. Again, it is hard to be sure.. just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. He looks way better after his shed and is handsome none the less.
I would be pretty upset, based on principal alone. This is why I try to stay away from internet exchanges and prefer to wait until the shows come through town (or nearby). Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not you like the snake. Did you buy it strictly for breeding purposes or display/breeding? I'm sure you can either exchange it or work out a deal on another snake you might like.
There is a picture in my signature of my Pastel male that I picked up from Repticon in Jacksonville. The picture was taken about a week before he started his shed cycle. He is currently foggy eyed, so I'll take some pics after he's finished shedding.
