My new Hypo Mojave from NARBC Anaheim

Hey everyone,

I picked this girl up from TSK at the Anaheim NARBC show over this weekend. She's a November 2012 and weighed in at 300g when I got her home. I can't wait to see how she's going to turn out once she gets some size on her. I absolutely love her color. I showed up at 10am when the doors opened on Saturday and she was one of the first things I saw. After walking the entire event I came right back to her because I didn't see anything else that came close to her (in my price range lol).

This may just be me, but that is quites small for a November '12. I have snakes that are this year coming up to 200g. I mean no more then a few months old.

I will say this though, she's a beautiful one.

I was surprised when Colette told me she was a 2012. I thought she was small as well. She said they don't do power feeding and simply fed her once a week. Either way, I'm looking forward to beefing her up :)

I don't power feed mine either and while I do stay on a 6 day schedule, I've seen bigger then that that was fed on a 7 day schedule. You should of asked what they're feeding.

As for the issue about her size, most breeders just do maintenance feeding. They feed small meals weekly and it keeps them small. She was probably still being fed hopper mice when she could be on adult mice.

my little mojave girl was smaller than that and shes a 2012, she has doubled, maybe even trippled, her size in the 5 months ive had her now. i need to get an exact weight on her, shes almost a year old (at the end of this month she will be 1) shes on small rats currently

As for the size thing, I have some 2012s that are 800 grams and others that are 200-300. They all had been with me from very young and get offered food every 7 days. Some are pickier with frozen, but will still eat every 2 or 3 offerings. Some of the smaller ones will eat every time I offer, but they don't retain as much weight as some of the others. I wouldn't start saying bad things about a breeder or a way someone cares for an animal simply because they aren't 1000 grams at almost a year old. Every animal is different. Her body looks nice and full, so they were doing something right.
Not every snake will put on 50-100 grams a month. When I see animals that put on 200-300 grams a month it raises a red flag about the feeding that the owner/breeder is doing. To me, up to 100 grams a month is a nice steady (and slow) rate of growth. I'm all about raising them up slow and not cutting time off of my animals life. Just my two cents.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Like I said I was a bit surprised she's almost a year old, but she looks plump, has bright eyes, nice strong tongue flick etc. Overall she looks perfectly healthy, just small. As I said I got her from TSK so I had no worries. I'm thrilled with her and it's nice to hear some others chiming in saying it's perfectly normal!
