Too good to be true
Hello friends! I come here tonight to share with my fellow herpers some unbelievably amazing news!
I got to see Tom Crutchfield at my local Herp Society meeting(Central Valley Herp Society). I was pretty stoked to see the Godfather speak about his conservation efforts.
He is an awesome guy, super down to earth, and VERY generous.
Long story short, he donated an amazing prize for our raffle, a yearling Dominican Red Mountain Boa!
Well, the last time I won ANYTHING I was 8 years old and won a rain poncho. Here I sit at 27 years old, my 4 month old son passed away 5 months ago, our family has been stricken with financial problems because of complications from my wife missing work because of it, and generally speaking I have pretty poor luck. I have to fight for everything we have, and we try to make sure the kids have a very happy fulfilling life.
Well, rushed to get to the meeting in time, I stop at an ATM to pull out $20 just in case. I get to the meeting about 5 mins late, and I definitely feel like tonight isn't going to be the 2nd time I win anything. Well, guess what?
After asking how much I spent on raffle tickets, and me telling him $20 worth(4 tickets) Tom says to me, "I can guarantee you are the ONLY person that had ever got a Dominican Red Mountain Boa for $20!"
I won a $1000 snake for $20! So excited! Should be getting it next week after he returns to Florida. Gives me some time to setup an enclosure. I'll post pictures when I get the little bugger :)

That's awesome. Since I did introduc you to DRMB you should definitely sell me a baby very very cheap when you have them or if you plan on breeding them. Do you know if you're getting a male or a female?
Also the conservation thing, you should read a book called: "The Lizard King". Tom is in it. Great guy though but he gave some people hell when he was younger lol.
Also, very sorry to hear about your son. That really sucks and I cannot express in words how sorry I am to have learned that.
EDIT:
Is it a morph or just the red phase?

Wow! Congrats on the win, and I am so very sorry about your son.

What an amazing story!!! I am so stoked for you! Huge congratulations and I can't wait to see pictures!
I was also very sorry to learn about your son. Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I hope life begins to look up for you and your wife and you two will be in my prayers. You have a great support group here.

Congrats on the win!!
So sorry to hear about your son. As a mother I can not imagine going through that. Stay strong.

Congrats on the boa and condolences to you and your wife. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Huge Congrats and color me jealous! I've been emailing Tom about drmbs and haven't had the money to invest yet.
As a mother, I cannot even begin to imagine the pain you all are going through. No parent should have to go through losing a child. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.

That's awesome, congrats! Also I'm so sorry for your loss.

DAMN sorry to hear of your loss and the domino effect it has had on your lives..:salute: Another mans problems would be minute to what you've been handed.. Thank you for sharing..

From what I'm told it's a very red DRMB, a little over a year old, and at least 3'. He said its one of HIS holdbacks! And yes, I guess I will have to sell you a baby cheap lol.

Thank you!
And as a father, please do me a favor and don't even try to imagine it. It's not something you want to. Just don't think about that type of stuff and give you child(ren) a great big  for me!

Ya I was just talking it over with my wife about a month ago how much I wanted one and how gorgeous they were, but the price was def prohibitive lol.
And thank you for your concern! As said earlier, don't imagine it please, just  your kids!

Now you just have to figure out if it's a male or female then we need to figure out how to breed. I have an awesome idea possibly but it's going to depend if you get a male or female.

Ya I call tom tomorrow to set it up. For $1000 I figure it's a female. Hopefully. I'm trying to talk my buddy into buying an opposite sex mate to breed, and split the babies. He's got a little more buying power than me considering he owns a shop...
But your idea is...?

Well I'll throw it out there once you know about it being male/female because I'd want to see the price of what he sells the other sex for.

I need to build a cage because the snake will be here Thursday around 11am so I gotta build tonight to allow enough time for the silicone and paint to off-gas enough.
I'm thinking 3'w x 2'd x 4'h. That sound appropriate for a yearling DRMB?
I'm thinking a corner hide, corner water bowl, on opposing sides to the rear, a nice dogwood tree branch setup vertically to allow climbing to the top, flexwatt on the side by the hide, and possibly a covered lamp at the very top.
Tom said they don't really need to or like basking unlike other boas, and they even do well in temps as low as 60°. Guess these guys like cooler climates than BCI's lol. I'm guessing really the ambient temps of my house would be fine. We keep the place at 72°-74° year round. And supposedly they like their night temps to drop 5°-10°.
So maybe no heat at all. I dunno.
Oh an he said it is on rat fuzzies already. I can't wait!

Re: Too good to be true
I wish I could help you but I know absolutely nothing about a DRMB.
