Help immediately please
Hi everyone.
Last weekend I did a trade with a vendor at an expo. I traded a Pastel 2000 gram female for a less than 100 gram female POG. Come to find out this man is a flipper! I have been speaking with him and told him I regard the trade and asked for an equal trade back. He now wants me to pay him 360 dollars for her or do the POG plus 75$ cash.
Thoughts? I am almost in tears thinking one of my babies ended up with a flipper. I am a huge animal lover and I made a mistake.
I just need some help ASAP.
Thanks

Re: Help immediately please
Update: He will not and I repeat will not do an even trade. After some discussion, he considered $50 plus the POG female back. I would have to make a 3 hour drive as well. Thoughts?
-
how do you know hes a flipper? imo, you should have sold the pastel girl out right for 350-450 to him an made a cash offer of 150-250 for pog. that pastel female being that size is well worth more then the pog , espically this time of year. dont hate me for saying this but bad decision on your part. ive gotten trades at shows an resold animals, but i feed an care for the animals just like my own. i also let the people know i didnt produce it and i got it on trade, thats up to them if they want the risks involved.
-
Frankly, if you guys made a trade I don't think there's anything you can do - If you really want her back looks like you may be stuck going for the drive and paying him what he wants :( - I'm sorry.

i agree, sucks but its the nature of the beast. need to make sure you know the value of what you have before you trade next time. im suprised hes even sayin give him 50.00 an trade back? he could very easy sell that pastel female for $350-400 at the next show. its close to breeding season, you know how many people want fireflys and superflys?

Re: Help immediately please
He told me he was going to keep her and put her with one of his 2-3 gene males. A good friend of mine knows him and tonight after speaking with the trader (not giving out any names) he told me that he had put her up for sale for 450. I asked why considering I could of done that myself. He says well that was my plan originally. So I confronted him about it.
My friend was a big breeder in MI. After crap started going down with the trader, I was talking to my buddy. Names were exchanged and I was informed to do a search on him. I did and let's say I should of done that in the beginning.
*A deal has been made. Exchange of snakes plus $50 to get my girl back. My heart goes out to this little POG for having to go back to him, but if I didn't grab Ava, my pastel, back I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

good deal atleast hes man enough to trade back, he was seeing dollar signs. ive seen POGs for 150.00 all day. he was lookin to make a profit from the get go. heres a word of advice. next show, you see a snake you like pay attention to what all is on the table, they can say they will breed this an that too a double or triple gene male but if theres not quite a few diff double an triples on their table. chances are they prob dont have any to breed.
take care Jeff

Re: Help immediately please
Thanks. I was told she was only worth 250-350 max. I didn't think 450$ like you all are saying. I am horrible with giving values on something. I am excellent with math but horrible with snake values. =/
I was wanting something else ghost for my mojave ghost but I feel just dumb, so I am paying the $50 plus the gas to go three hours away to bring my girl home again. I won't be doing any trading unless I come here first from now on.
Thanks

Re: Help immediately please
Jeff,
To be honest, I can't even remember what all he had on the table. I saw the POG and wanted one. Live and learn I guess.
Thanks

Mark Spaid hypo line out of NY. thats what this forum is here for, i ask for advice all the time. i dont know it all, if i did i would be the first to tell you i get bored easy!

Re: Help immediately please
You took the words out of my mouth! I am by far not a know it all. I love to learn as much as possible then I start getting bored extremely quick. Now my shopping is done until next pay period.
Thanks for everything guys!

Yea, it's best to always know the value of what you have before you try to do any trades.
Also this is another reason it's always best to do trades with more reputable people who would of told you what you had was more valuable than what you thought.

Re: Help immediately please
It also doesn't matter whether you're selling, trading, or giving an animal away, once it's out of your hands you've lost all control over it without something like a first right of refusal contract.
Sorry OP, but if you're going to sell or trade anything leave your emotions out of it and treat it as a business transaction. Be glad you're only out a little money, some folks don't learn that until they purchase their first house and it's a an extremely expensive lesson.

Re: Help immediately please
I completely understand but I treat my snakes just like pets. I do not breed yet and this I can see was a business trade but if I would of known he was going to flip her for cash, then I would not of done the trade at all. I am going today to pick her up.
Thanks everyone

If you like her so much, keep her forever. Don't ever let dollar signs get in the way of your love for a pet.

What do you mean flip? He is not flipping it one bit if he chooses to sell it higher then your trade offer then so be it it's his snake he can do what he wants... And you should be thankful that he Is selling her back to you for the loss he is taking.

Re: Help immediately please
I am not going to name this individual out so the person that traded with me, I looked on the BOI from several sites. No one speaks highly of this individual. The forums state how dirty cages, racks, underfed, etc the environment is. Yes I should of done research before hand, but I did not. I believe him. All the research has shown is how he is a flipper from other people as well as me.
I had no intentions of her being resold and I told him that in the beginning. I have had her for over a year in my care then a buddy took over as I was having some car issues last summer. If I knew he was going to resell her, then I would have never traded. I figured he could prove her out and in the future I could purchase a baby as I have mentioned this all to the said individual and he had no issues with that.
I am meeting him within three hours. I will not be dealing with him again. I will be doing more research in any future snakes I purchase or trade with. There are only a few breeders up in Michigan that I trust. I will just stick with those.
Thanks

The deals done when you guys finished.
Think about it like this:
Jimmy buys a horse for an acre of land from Stevie.
Jimmy regrets his decision, and wants to trade back.
Stevie, regarding the land as more valuable now, wants more on his side for the trade.
Jimmy is SOL because the original trade agreement is now finished and the details, unfortunately, unimportant in the current trade.
That's the circle of life, unfortunately. Next time, and this isn't an insult to you at all, but do a little research on who you're dealing with. How hard would be to hop on google or fauna and plug his name or the business name in? Food for thought.
-
Glad you could get her back, sorry if my above comment was a little rough... Glad to know you got her back.
-
I am afraid that buyer/trader remorse is generally not covered by any type of policy.....that one would be called a lesson learned.
You traded an animal and you are now having a change of heart which I can understand letting go of animals is not the easy part.
Regardless or whether you are dealing with a flipper/breeder/or private party you can never guarantee what the future of your animal will be, and this is something you might want to consider if you want to pursue breeding.

Re: Help immediately please
I was told by my friend breeder that I had a right to get her back at the same value as I traded her for. Now after looking over this thread, I believe my friend gave me the wrong information. Maybe he had a personal grudge against this guy? I don't know. Lesson learned the hard way and I won't do it again. I met him at the expo so I did not have google with me. Yes I should of got on my phone and looked him up, but I did not. Lesson learned again.
Thank you. From now on, I will just come here instead of asking friends for advice. Seems like it gets me in more trouble than it is worth.

Yeah, we're covering things like this in my business law class right now.
Once a deal is done, the terms of that deal are irrelevant to the following deal concerning the same items.

Re: Help immediately please
Thanks for the advice and concern. I appreciate it all.
Again, thank you

Glad you were able to get her back without taking too big of a hit, but I strongly recccomend you quarantine her when she gets home, especially if the rumors of this persons shoddy husbandry are true.
