Old school iPhone girl contemplating cheating with Android.
So I've been Team iPhone for forever, but lately my eye has been wandering to those on Team Android.
INPUT?! Hold out for iPhone 5s or make the jump to S4 or HTC One?
ALL THESE GROWN UP DECISIONS SUCK!

The main difference between the two platforms is one has synergy and the other does not (kind of). Another point to consider is how much do you rely on the cell vs other electronic items (laptops, PC's, tablets, etc). :)
Personally, one thing that was most important for me was to have (what I consider critical) data available to me regardless of device, connected to the world or not. iCloud filled that need for me. :gj:
Another thing to consider is apps by platform. Additionally, do you care to deal with fragmentation or not. :rolleye2:
And finally - is it pretty? lol :P
Side note - For Android phones - HTC hands down. Build quality is by far hands down better than the rest.
S4 is a cool phone if you are into plastic.
iPhone 5s - depends what you are currently using... 64bit processing is kind of cool on a mobile device, but moot if the resources are not present to take full advantage of the processing speed.
I feel like I may have not helped you out here much, but it's just one little opinion to get the ball rolling for you. Good luck deciding. :D

I use my phone exponentially more than I use my laptop or iPad. As far as iCloud goes, I don't rely on it at all.
I'm currently using iPhone 4.
No clue what fragmenting is LOL.

Cloud base storage is not for everyone.

Current Android or iPhone cells would be a massive upgrade! ;)

Quality and control of applications, not all are created equal. :colbert: Some devs can be sloppy and sloppy code can do some terrible things to cells.

Re: Old school iPhone girl contemplating cheating with Android.
I have always had androids and love them. Currently using a S4 and love it. And I use my phone for EVERYTHING. There are several reasons why I haven't gotten an iphone. Dont like not having a removable card, also limited to storage space by phone, being stuck with itunes only, less free apps, apple proprietary crap...
-
having had both, droid has more tweeks you can do with it,
iphone, is more user friendly,
its really comparing a windows computer to an apple.
with windows you can alter so much more and do more dev type stuff, but with mac, you have to go out of your way to do the same things.... not sure if that makes sense to anyone but me....

Android has removable SD Cards?!

Yes, most Android cells do. Can increase storage capacity on the fly by swapping out to a much larger SD card. :D

That right there is pretty much enough to convert me

Congrats! Sounds like the challenge is solved ;)

I've only ever had Androids and love them to death. I don't like the operator limitations the Iphone has.
My boyfriend has been an Iphone fanboy since Gen 1 and has had Iphones since they first came out. He finally decided to make the switch the the Galaxy S4 from the Iphone 4s. And he loves the S4.
He said this to me, "The Iphone was amazing when it first came out. It was ahead of it's time. But it hasn't really changed much since Gen 1, while Androids have been improving each year."

I just made a switch over to a smart phone in August. Finally joined the world of being able to do more than just make phone calls on a phone! :D
I got an S4. I can't really compare to anything else, since this is my first smart phone, but I LOVE it. It did take me a little bit to get used to it, but nothing worse than just getting used to a new phone period. I actually find it much easier to use and easier to learn than the "dumb phone" I have for work (no idea what model it is, but it's a flip phone!). I love all the features and apps it has. I find it pretty easy to use and fairly intuitive (now that I'm used to it, and I'm no technological genius either - I'm the kind of person that plays around with it until I either break it or figure it out! lol). I can do a lot with all the apps available (including play games, who knew! lol). Now that I have internet included into my plan, I can also better conduct my personal business while on the go. Not sure how much that helps you, or what it is you are looking for in a phone, so just basically telling you my experience. Like I said, I'm still very new to smartphones, and don't really have anything to compare to.

I had an Iphone up until the 4, then I switched to an android s4. Love it!! The camera on it rules! I think it is much faster. Or so it seems. The screen size is bigger. My husband has the iphone5 and it's like a tiny, mini phone compared to mine. Too small to work with, especially if you use it for other tasks besides making phone calls. ;)

I have had android phones ever since they came out. In fact, I think I still have the first android phone that came out with Verizon. I have been contemplating trying out the new iPhone 5s when it comes out in 4 days. Verizon does have a 30 return policy so if I end up not liking it I can always go back to android. But I'm wondering about just getting the S4 and not even try to make the jump to apple.
-
Android is basically everything an iphone could be, but you'd have to illegally jailbreak your iphone to do any of it. It's all stock on android (basically) and you can still do even more.
And it's not like the android market is empty, sure some apps aren't fully functioning because the market is unregulated. Some apps don't look as pretty as it's iphone counterpart (apply as GUI support to make things look pretty). But if theres a critical error or problem with apps, devs can push updates the market immediately, they don't have to wait for apple review to get it going.
For example, at one point I couldn't view photos on tapatalk so I reported it through the app and on their bug forum for tapatalk 4 android and within 12 hours they pushed out a fix for android. pretty awesome.

You guys are making my decision quite easy. I think I might hit up the mall soon and just do it. No sense thinking it to death lol.
I LOVE NEW THINGS!!!

That's exactly what the rep I spoke to earlier said. Gen 1 iPhone was off the hook but its updates are minimal

You should totally cheat! I'm an android girl. I had an HTC, but I really love Galaxy! I got my S3 when the S4 came out and I always get a phone when it first comes out and I always regret it. I'm very happy with my S3 though! I'm ready to see what's after the S4!

Re: Old school iPhone girl contemplating cheating with Android.
Tough choice indeed. I had a iPhone from the 3GS, 4, 4S, and now the 5. I switched to the Galaxy S4 and loved it for a while but three things made me switch back to the iPhone.
1. Lag: My S4 was not as speedy as my iPhone 5 and froze a lot with simple tasks or just hitting the home button.
2. I dropped my phone while in a case and I lost all 500+ pictures and 1000+ songs on my SD card. I guess the drop wiggled the SD card out of place a bit and by doing so wipes the card. AT&T told me it was quite common.
3. Build quality: Yes, The iPhone is supposed to shatter easy, but nothing like the S4. I dropped it ONCE from maybe 8 inches face down onto a desk and it shattered the screen. I dropped my iPhone 5 many times case-less from 5+ feet onto cement with nothing more then a few scratches. After that broken screen I decided to go back to my iPhone 5 for now until Samsung makes a better build phone. I really like the new iOS 7 as well, and I have a Macbook Pro so maybe I am a little bias as well ;)

I've honestly never heard any of those kind of problems with the S4. There is absolutely no lag on my wife's s4, I can't speak about the SD card cause she doesn't have one, but the dropping thing. I've tossed it across the the yard into the drive way (we have the full replacement insurance on it) just to see and not a scratch. Maybe it was the case you got, she has the speck back cover and an invisible shield screen protector.
Sucks to hear you had a bad experience. Although, I do think you're a fan boy/girl haha. Everyone I've heard say anything about iOS 7 is either asking why it sucks or explaining why it sucks.

I have owned every generation iphone since the first one and I've owned just about every major android release except the note 3 and the s4, the reason I haven't owned one of these is because after much comparison I'm fully convinced, apples phones are superior, in reliability, smoothness, and performance. I will never experiment with any android device again. :)

My bad experience with an iPhone was the antenna on my 4s when out and apple wanted an obscene amount of money to fix it. Literally could not make a call anywhere any time of day.
My s3 has yet to fail me on anything.

It is a great phone do not get me wrong, but some days it lags. Not with internet or downloads but just switching screens or going to the home screen. Not a big noticable lag, but for a iPhone user I noticed it! Apple just made their operating system very snappy and user friendly which I like. I use my phone for everything. I switched to the S4 for more customizing and for the open user experience but it really is not much better then the iPhone IMO for what I do. And my friend dropped her S4 from hip hight and hers cracked easily as well. I may switch to the S5 if it is built out of anything but plastic!
Oh and iOS 7 is great. People just do not like change!

The only thing I envy about the iPhone or iOS is the GUI support they provide. Most (not all) apps look "pretty" to some extent.

We ended up both getting the HTC One on a "share everything" family plan. I lovvve it so far.
I was at a friends house for lunch yesterday afternoon and held her iphone and it felt so MINI! haha
Still learning all the tips/tricks to this phone, though. Does anyone know how to make the wallpaper behind all the apps different than just black? :rolleye2:

Go to the photo, save it, in your gallery press the menu button, set as, home screen.
-
yeah, there is no "home screen" under "set as" :(
