Someone please help

I have posted a couple times trying to get help with my hatchlings not shedding. I can't believe out of all you long time breeders nobody has had similar shedding issues. This is the first time I haven't been able to get help on this forum.

1.1 pastels, 1.0 lesser, 0.1 spider, 1.3 norm. 1.0 fire 0.1 RTB 0.0 sav. Mon.

Got pics of the babies? I find it hard to believe that half of a clutch hasn't shed after a month.

Don't sweat the small stuff!

Just make sure your temps and humidity are where they need to be, and leave the shedding, pooping, eating and living up to the snakes. They'll shed when they're ready.

My Jungle Carpet hatchlings finally shed in the last couple days after over a month. As was said, if conditions are good, they'll do it in their own time. Blood pythons take over 3 months to shed the first time.

Is it OK that I fed them?

Sure. I have had hatchlings eat before 1st shed. Most WILL NOT though so do not freak out. I have only done this with very aggressive babies.

I would just leave them alone personally. Damp papertowels and correct temps and time is all they really need.

yes, feed every 5-7 days as normal

Don't stress so much! You need to spend more time enjoying your snakes and less time worrying :) :gj:

I'm enjoying them very much but I guess what had me worried is someone posted in a sticky that hatchlings that didn't shed were put on a danger watch. But these seem to be doing fine. First time jitters I guess:rolleyes:

I had many hatchlings miss their first shed. I feed mine which when the snake grows is one of the things that causes a snake to shed. kept mine on damp paper towels until they shed. then they go to dry paper towels just like all the others. it will be ok :)

well I have NEVER heard of a hatchling dying due to not shedding .. they will shed eventually, when they are ready, no need to worry .. and I have a feeling you are the worrying type since i probably saw about 30 posts from you on the topic of breeding and hatchlings in the last few months alone ironpython :D

Not really the worrying type but Im new to this and don't want these animals to die because I do something wrong. You didn't worry about your animals your first time breeding them?

I freaked out so badly I joined here. :D

I started with one snake to get my son to quit catching poisonous snakes and then I got hooked on them. Then in my research to care for her found this forum and from what I learned from you folks by asking questions and being (worried ) have successfully bred and hatched 21 hatchlings from 3 snakes. Y'all can look forward like it or not to many more questions for many more years.:D

I have 2 hatchlings that did not and still haven't shed yet. Once the clutch mates shed, I had feeders for all of them, they all ate first try, even the ones who did not shed. I have them all switched to f/t'd now after the first live feeding.

Congrats. With my 1st breeding season coming up I know I'll have a ton of questions myself. I will be printing out breeding stickies and tips from breeders I know and respect just to cut down on the volume of questions I have. If it has helped thousands before me I'll pay attention and where I fail I'll learn and pass on what I learn.

without this forum I am pretty sure many of us would fail at breeding - I sure would :) .. my only point was that patience is mostly the answer when it comes to ball pythons - I myself used to worry about everything when I started out, it took me many years to realise that for instance me worrying will not make them shed any faster, or take a poop after 5 meals faster, or ovulate faster etc. :D .. but questons are always welcome, heck I have so many myself that I want answered some day I could probably write a book on it ;)

I agree patience is key in this hobby and lessons learned are the best teacher how ever when you have so many experienced people who have been thru the failures and are willing to help why not take advantage of the opportunity to succeed by asking questions. I don't stress as much as I did at first like when you find that first clutch has arrived and you handle the eggs like they are nitro glycerin lol you learn and when the next clutch comes you know they are more resilliant than you thought and each success breeds confidence. I learned a lot from this first season and three successful clutches. I won't be nervous and feel like I'm going to fail like the first time. And I will gladly pass on any info I have attained to anyone who asks, and I think its so cool when I see people asking for help with the same questions I had last year. This forum is great and I feel like part of the family here and enjoy watching the new people join in and succeed.

Oh by the way all the babies shed and have eaten three times and all is well at Fortson exotics.
