Ok this is really not a very good picture but my little pied is determined that he is not coming out of his egg, and he's not giving any photo op's at this point. As soon as he comes out I will get a much better picture to post. I f you can make out the picture he looks like there's a lot of white. You can just see his little nose peeking out.

    Hi Guys-
Thanks to everyone who shared the excitement of my Pied hatching with me. It was nice to be able to share it with others who appriciated the moment, it made it that much more memorable.
Just a quick FYI, I have traded the female Pied for a male Spider and will begin to work on my Bumble bee project. I hated to let her go, but I love those Bumble bees, and the Killer bees are outrageous. I will keep you updated.
    Thanks

hockeymom, obviously you know what you where doing slitting that egg and ralph davis does it too, alot. you guys scare me cuz i had a bad experience slitting crested eggs years ago. like these eggs where 2 weeks overdue, so i slit one, the baby was fully developed, and alive. it didn't live after i slit the egg and helped it out(eversogently). i let the other egg (its clutchmate) alone, it hatched a week later. i felt horrible i did that, and truley believe if i left well enough alone it would of hatched. i was just curious on how you knew when to slit that egg and how you slit it.please don't take this the wrong way, i am not knocking you @ all. hell you got a pied, i don't even have one, yet ;0) but from my experience w/ it and seeing you and ralph do it. it just has me twisted. you probly didn't help it out, which where my mistake could have been, and cresteds are different than balls. but i am just really curious. please don't be offended.

    Hi Wendy-
Well I have mixed feelings about sliting the eggs. I mainly did the Pied because I was worried that it was taking so long for her to pip. I lost one of the eggs that I slit. My only male in the clutch, I slit the egg about 1" and he exited the egg too early. His yolk sac wasn't absorbed and he got in tangled around the other eggs and died. There is a difference between sliting the egg and helping them out. I was told most of the large breeders slit their eggs. I have been told it's to keep any weaker snakes from dying if they couldn't slit the egg themselfs, especially the expensive snakes.
In the future I will probably only put a small slit in eggs that haven't piped after the rest of the clutch have all piped. I guess it's just a judgement call depending on your personal prefrence, and prior experiences.

hey hockeymom, how is the bumble bee project going? i too love those bees! i'm just starting my pastel group this fall, so i'm several years from a bee. the only way i can afford one is to breed some pastels and get some additional income. how far along are you on the project? did you sell your pieds?

    thanks

    Hi Vaughn-
Well I have set up a trade for a male Spider for my Pied female. I am actually driving out to AZ from CA to do the exchange next weekend. I have also obtained a male Pastel, and am currently trying to raise enough cash for a female. It's going to be a few years but it will be worth the wait.
Good luck getting your Pastel project going.
