I would definitely take your bp to a qualified vet to have it sexed. That way you get someone who knows what they are doing. You dont run the risk of hurting your bp either.

    Which One?
You determine the sex of a snake by doing what's known as "probing". I'd describe how its done, but as Carson said, it's best to just bring them to a reputable vet to have them sexed. :)

Its a vet visit, it'll probably cost you. I always have my bp's checked out by a vet when i first get them anyway.

yes it does, at my vet it cost 30 bucks just to walk in the door and anything extra means more $$ but its a good vet and i trust them.

well if you knew how to do the probing properly than yes,but i wouldent try anything like that, either take him/her to the vet or find an expieranced person to do it for you.

You can buy probe kits and try to probe your snake yourself(with help from a friend also), but it's risky and there's a chance you can injure your snakey. So it's best you don't try it on your own. As for any other ways other than probing...I don't think theres many characteristics that seperate a female ball from a male ball, other than usually the females grow bigger. Some people also try to go by the anal spurs. It's said that males will generally have longer and curvier spurs and thicker tails than the females. But it's not 100%.

Agree, the risk of injuring your snake is too great in my opinion.

And wow, someone agrees with me. And I have yet to even experience the loveliness that is the owning of a ball.

    How much do BP's Cost?
They would most likely know, but don't count on it. The best way so far to tell by yourself is the spurs at the vent. It's not a gaurantee, but for the most part it you have nice, curved, easy to see spurs you most likely have a male. The female's spurs are usually much smaller (key word "usually") than the males. Also check this link to a previous post on this matter.
Again, sexing by probing is the accurate way, but at-home sexing by visual indication can be done. Check out the male and female comparison at the bottom of the post and you can see that there is a pretty good difference between this male and female.........http://www.ball-pythons.net/index.ph...r=asc&start=15

maybe, if they are qualified, and probed it themselves, but normally, petstores dont

ive heard of taking it, and place your thumb at the cloaca and slide it down the scales, but dont like, dig your thumb into it, and you might be able to feel the hemipenes, and if you do, its a male, and if you dont, its a female, this isnt always truthful, so its just more of an educated guess, but i dont know how safe it is or not

We have popped a few, but I wouldn't recommend it, unless you have been taught the correct procedure.
I do recommend you bring any new animal into your home to the vet. Have the vet probe for you, you may also buy a set of probes and have the vet teach you how to properly use them.
And we have found, that pet stores usually do not know, unless they are a herp specialty store.
    Thanks

Popping can only be done in very young animals. I think even after a couple weeks old you can't do it anymore and they must be probed. Basically, if you don't buy from a breeder, go to a qualified person (ie., vet or experienced keeper, Herp society..) and have it probed.

    Completely agree.
Their may be times where you will see some qualified breeders (at expos for instance) pop a snake in front of you. We have done it on occasion, but the best and safest way is to have the animal probed.
