My new pinstripe says, "Whats my name?" Help!!!
    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...st-Ball-Python!

What I'm doing here is having an open forum vote on what to name my new pinstripe. It's a girl and if you have not read the thread I will get you somewhat up to speed.

There are two names that I think really represent her well. First being, once we saw her I had pointed out to my wife how nice of an olive color she has on her stripe. My wife said, 'Oliveeeeeee, THAT should be her name!'

The other name that I came up with is 'Pandora'. Due to a little quirk in her pattern. She's got a quarter-inch by quarter-inch 'box' half way down her body. Lined in black there is a little white box. You know, 'Pandora's Box' :)

So here is the tally so far...

    Pandora:7 Olive:5

Post your vote below for your favorite name! The first name to 10 votes wins! [Please, If you have already cast your vote. Don't vote again.)

(Disclaimer: I think both names represent her very well. I would be happy with either. Since I'm new around here I thought I'd do something a little different on BP.net)

The box marking is more unique than the olive coloring, so I vote Pandora. :)

If it's out of those two then I say Pandora.

I'm going to vote "Olive" for the simple reason that I wouldn't be able to look at my wife and tell her that she lost out a naming battle to an internet message board without first contemplating some serious couch time. :P

I vote Olive because there are way too many Pandora BPs on this forum. Olive suits her and a pinstripe's color in my opinion. Its a very cute name.

And now that I think of it... I had a name that she immediately dismissed. Haha, I said her name was going to be 'Mrs. Jackson' Reason being, I always said if I get a male snake, it's name would be 'Samuel L. Jackson'

Hes my favorite actor. lol... And i know Snakes on a Plane was a garbage movie, but the relation is too funny to me.

There will be more snakes. :) I will have the combo someday!

By the way, nice signature! I too served. Active duty for 8 years in combat arms. I just recently got out on a medical retirement. Couldn't stay in, wasn't my choice. :(

I salute your husband for what he does! Best wishes to the both of you! :salute: Love to all my brethren! :salute:

Thank you for your amazing service, Gessler! We consider any fellow military family as part of our family, too. I will pass your message on to him. He is going on 9 years active duty recon and comms cqb combat. He was recently released from Eisenhower Army Med Center and is home at the moment. Not sure if he will be returning either, I know how hard that is for you guys :( But I'm glad you're home and safe and enjoying Miss Pandora.

It's so nice to have "met" you!

Yes, most definately! Nice to meet you as well. I don't know what happened, but I can only assume when he's been in the med-center. I hope he is doing alright. :)

On a lighter note... I saw you were from CA. You two wouldn't happen to have heard of, or are going to that big reptile expo in Portland, Oregon on January 18th, 2014? Its sponsored by Zoo-Med and is supposed to be the biggest one of the year.

Well, if you are, before or after I'll buy you two a beer. :)

Haha, I thought of that already. I would have also spelled it 'Pop-pie', that is, if it so happens to be a Piebald. :)

He is doing good :) Was shot twice in the leg. The one that went through his knee is the reason they might be looking at medically retiring him. You said you were medically retired as well, are you doing okay also?

We are planning on heading to the expo in Sacramento at the end of this month, but hadn't heard of that particular expo in Oregon!! After looking at it, if we can swing it, we will be there! :D

Thats good to hear. I'm just taking it one day at a time, ya know? I was in a total of 3 large IED blasts. I begged to stay in country on my last tour after the first.. and then the second... The third one not only put me out of commission, but a few of my comrades as well. (It was an E.F.P.) I consider myself lucky to be here and thank God and my wife for it. (Not to mention all the government provided healthcare.) I find solace in my pets. I got Conrad, my shepherd, a couple weeks after I was released from the hospital to stay at home. My wife is a pharmaceutical technician and works a lot. So my councilor had recommended pet therapy to me. The big theory behind pet therapy and soldiers with cases of PTSD is that.. Firstly, the pet and you have an unconditional bond. Secondly, with PTSD, there is depression. Having a pet that relies on you for care and his health redirects your mentality away from that stage. I can honestly say pets do make it feel better. :) I had always wanted to get into reptiles but never found the time being active duty for so long. Glad to now be a part of it. The only downside to it is... I wish they would digest faster because now.. after feeding her... I can only look at her. :( Although, Conrad never allows a dull moment in the day!

As far as the expo goes, I hope you guys make it! It will be my first, and I know its going to be super hard to not buy something there. HAHA! Not only do I want more snakes, I want a tegu with a passion. I'm thinking of just getting a hatchling because if I tell my wife how big it gets beforehand, I don't know how that will pan out. She will just have to grow to love it!

Isn't it sad that now Barack Obama cut back military funding.. The VA will no longer support financing pet therapy animals. And yet, we still have plenty of money to go to war with Syria... -________- Thats right Mr. Obama... THATS a whale face.

I am so sorry to hear of all that you have gone through and continue to go through :( You are a hero in every sense of the word. I am so glad to hear that you are finding solace in your pets! My husband's therapist recommended the same thing for him, as only 3 of them survived on the day that he was wounded, which has resulted in various PTSD symptoms here at home. (Dreams and depression, mainly.) He was going to head towards getting a dog, but now is thinking more along the lines of a Boa. Thus our trip to the Sac Expo, which will also be our first time attending a reptile show!

lol, now I have to look up a Tegu! I don't know what that is. And yes, perhaps play dumb as he/she gets way bigger than you planned on? :P

And I just finished my 48 hours of snake-staring. Sooooo hard! Can't wait to hold her today, lol.

Obama and his cut backs.... I'm not sure I can find a forum-appropriate emote face for that. So I think perhaps, I will +1 your whale face. -__________-

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That make me lol!

Your husband is a hero as well! :salute:

I too still have nightmares on a regular basis. Its the worst part in my opinion. Insomnia has most defiantly set in. Most nights if I can swing not sleeping, I usually go that route. Should work out well because Pandora is a nocturnal creature, and Conrad loves to sleep! :)

I recommend that you don't look up Tegu if you don't know what they are.... You will want one. They ARE the puppies of the reptile world. Takes lots of time, and I have plenty. :) I will most definitely wait to move to a larger house. They need room, and lots of it! The adult enclosure should be 8x4x4. When they are out they are very social, loving, and attention seekers. Not to mention mobile!

Monitors are cool too, I just like tegus better. There is a forum here under lizards i believe for Tegus. Youtube has tons of tegu videos. There is a guy with a tegu named MacGyver and he is a 'roaming' tegu. He lets it roam his house like a dog. I also saw a video of a potty trained tegu. He holds it till they get home from work and once they let him out he goes strait to the bathroom first. Beelines it. Does his business then its ready to be a tegu again! Gosh, I love em.

Yeah. Just wait. You'll keep watching videos, and then start pricing them... Well, you know where it goes from there!

BTW, they really aren't that badly priced and I would most definately build its own enclosure. That would be the easy part. Home Depot or Lowes with dimensions and you're gravy! I wouldn't do the progressive living quarters. Small to big. That sounds too expensive. I'd build the adult enclosure with a proper divider as it grows. Too easy.
