Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Thread

Does anyone here play the game? I'm a long time wow player and I am looking at jumping in with some friends. I'm aware of the server problems, but other than that how is the game playing out?

Do you know what I wondered if there would be a thread for this lol.

I play! I'm on Excalibur server but I'm not sure if it's open to new characters. The problems with the servers seem to be ironed out in the last maintenance, but another one is scheduled for tomorrow (11th for the US, 12th for EU). Dunno what that is for though I skipped the details.

I'm enjoying it so far. I bought 1.0 on day of release and it was abysmal. I gave up with it after 3 days and just thought 2.0 would be just as bad. But I get the collectors edition for free as I had 1.0 so I figured I'd give it a shot and I would actually pay a subscription for it.

People have been bashing it and giving it bad reviews just for the server issues, but I don't think that was fair really. All new release MMO's have issues but some people seem to forget that and just expect everything to work first time. I say give it maybe another few weeks and then give it a try.

I played final fantasy X and it was by far my favorite. Tried 12 and didn't like it :(

I played XI for 7 years off and on, finally quit last month because it just got boring especially as all my friends had moved to XIV. I've not played any non-MMO final fantasy games, except 3 on the DS and it was rubbish. I'm not a huge fan of turn based RPG with the exception of Pokemon lol.

I don't see myself playing another MMO anytime soon. I played WOW for 6 years. Cataclysm killed it for me. Pandas were not enough to bring me back.

I may give Skyrim Online....I mean Elder Scrolls Online when a shot when it comes out.

I did briefly play FFXI but it was not solo friendly and the only people that were ever online seemed to be Japanese and several levels above so it was hard to find help for the things I needed a group for.

I hope this new FF online isn't like that.

FFX was the best IMO. It was so sad too, that sucked.

This new FF, is it for PC? If not then I won't play it.

Yeh FFXIV is for PC, PS3 and PS4.

It's very solo friendly. I've managed to get up to level 17 ish and have only just had to party up with people in order to continue with the main story line boss fights. The rest of the time I've been running around doing side quests to level up (they give stupid amounts of exp), and killing monsters.

I'm still learning everything and slowly finding my feet in the game, but so far so good. There are still bugs and things to be ironed out but I reckon most of those will be dealt with over the coming months. The main thing is the servers are stable so there isn't a problem with logging in any more.

I play on Ultros, we have a small FC running with some RL friends. Leveling is easy till you get closer to 50. The lack of content(quests) to level on at higher levels kinda sucks. So far the end game content I've done is interesting, but nothing way too challenging. This coming from a WoW vet of 6 years.

Still waiting to get the game but the closer that gta5 gets, the less time ill have to play :p

I think its a beautiful game. The server/login problems are practically gone. There is always something you can do(craft, explore, dungeons, fates, quests). If you end up getting it, hop on Ultros if you don't have a server in mind already. Shoot me a PM for my details.

Played wow until cat too, but I quite playing cause I was always talking to my wife lol and, as right know I don't even know were my dvds are plus I gotten out of paying to play type games like wow ( I don't have the funds to buy a game and then be spending x amount to keep access t it every month .

What server were you on? I played off and on for about 5 yrs, gave it up after my acct was hacked <miss my poor lil taru>. I would love to play XIV but no one has figured out how to add 6-8 hrs to every day so I'd have time.

I was on Ifrit until it got merged with Odin, and so that's where I stayed. I'm going to pop on FFXIV today I think as I have nothing else to be doing lol.

Wait, has FFXIV been released already? If so I'll have to see about getting it. I wonder how it'll suit my GTX Titan video card :D

Yes it's been out officially since 27th Aug I believe. They are still fixing things but the log in issues seem to have gone now which is good. The specs for this version aren't as demanding as 1.0 was.

Here's the benchmark for US players, just install it and run then see what it says at the end. You get to watch a short movie while it does it.

I think I got a mid range with my HP laptop but it has dual graphics so it's not too shabby.

Oh no doubt I'll be able to play it on max or ultra settings. The Titan is a massive video card with a ton of vram(6gb).
