Why are they so expensive? 2013s $425 for a male, $550 for a female? My 2012s won't sell for even $100 on CL. and mine look just as good as the Liesens do, or better. Anyone have any insight?

I saw that ad today and I have no idea why they are so expensive either. I too think mine look much better than the ones posted on that ad.

Why are you posting them for sale on CL? Post them on BP.Net or on some of the other classified sites dedicated to reptiles. I have had no problems selling mine so far. Good Luck

Supply and demand. People who really want to work with that line will pay more and they aren't available often.

I wanted a liesen line for a while because I thought they seemed to hold onto their colors better, then I found the VPI Black Satin line... I need me one of those, and definitely willing to pay that kind of money for one that will keep those nice blacks/oranges into adult hood. Black pastels that look like brown cinni wanna be's make me sad faced :P

I've always wanted to see a super from the line. Either no one's trying for one or they're train wrecks... :confuzd:

We work with the VPI line. We finally got a female we're holding back to try for supers so we will see. The problem is in order to get a pure VPI line you need to line breed.

Line or no line, they don't look that good. mine are poss harlequin as well. very bright with nice striping. mine look very similar to what i've seen of the black satin line, no relation as far as i know. I think i will try posting on bp.net since they are getting near 400g and theres no point in having two black pastel poss harlequin males.

I got my Black Pastel last week, so far it's the best looking one I've ever seen! Has anyone seen something similar?

I've never seen anything like it before!! It's so dark but has such bright radiant colors at the same time. He/she is stunning!! Definitely the best one I've ever seen as well. Congrats on that little beauty :)

There are definitely stunning "no line" black pastels out there and personally I think sellers should ask more for them. Sure it might take a while to find the buyer who buys for quality not just to have a morph but they will sell eventually.

I have a liesen line and it was the only one that I found that I liked when I was in search of a black pastel. I paid $350 for my male.

Everyone has their favorites and I tend to like the Liesen line the best. I got a gorgeous Liesen line Black pastel yellowbelly that my but produced and she is incredible. Super dark black and orange when she hatched. Nice blushing and coloring as she's getting bigger. I don't follow all the particulars about the morph but its my understanding that there is some link to the "Trick" gene too. I think that has something to do with the prices staying a bit on the higher side. Please add insight if you've heard or know anything about that.

Yea, I forgot to add the trick thing. My black pastels dad was a "trick".

The Liesen Black Pastels that look so different are also carrying the Trick gene...Otherwise Liesen Line Black Pastels look about like any other Black Pastel...

I can concur, here's my little girl I just got from Joe last week (Joe: she already took a f/t rat pup just fine!):

That's interesting. I didn't know that. I wonder if something similar will prove the case with the black satins. So far we've only hatched two but there were no "normals that resembled a trick or anything that would make me think our male has a second gene.

The Ian G. line BPs can look really nice too. It comes down to what each person likes and what price they are willing to pay. I'd pay $300-350 for any of the snakes pictured in this thread. They are all gorgeous.

weird. what do you guys think about this baby that was part of my black pastel clutch last year?

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater

looked like a black pastel at first and then it became clear it was not black pastel, but weird. the breeder i got the sire from also produced wacky babies like this.

That is sweet....She should have a very good appetite with all that attitude. I held back 2 girls last year and they are already 1000g and just turned a year old.

I wonder with that wacky pattern if she has some trick going on.
