    Poop Question!
Hey guys, my little hatchling is doing great. When I bought him he weighed 60-65 grams. After 3 feedings he is now 95-100 grams.

First week he ate a mouse hopper - No poop that week
Second week he ate a rat pup- He pooped couple days after and it was a big poop cause it was 2 feedings built up.
Third week he ate another rat pup which was yesterday the 26th- He pooped twice today. I woke up and there was a big poop and pee cleaned up the whole cage and than I came home tonight and there was another poop and pee. Is this normal for him to poop twice in one day? I thought they don't go to the bathroom that often? Kind of frustrating because I had to clean his whole tub all over again not to mention the smell of the poop really lingers even after cleaning it up quickly and washing everything with soap.

He also pees every time he poops and soaks up the whole half of the coolside newspaper.

On a side note for a hatchling he is a charm to handle he has never once struck at me and is awesome, I heard hatchlings can be nippy so I guess I got lucky.

The amount/frequency of poop is directly proportional to the amount of food the snake eats. More food = more poop/more often.

Twice in one day is a little strange, but probably nothing to worry about.

Why did you clean the whole tub? Maybe it's the substrate you are using? Mine is on cypress mulch and I just scoop the poop and spot clean. I only clean the whole tank once a month. Maybe that's wrong? No stink and seems pretty clean to me.

Some substrates you can spot clean, others (mainly paper based substrates) need to be completely changed out every time.

Yeah, I'm guessing the OP is using paper towels?

I am using newspaper so if he poops on it, I have to put a whole new piece in as well as wipe down the tub because urine seeps through the newspaper. Yea i thought it was odd that he pooped twice in one day but the poop looks completely normal and hes fine. Maybe the rat pup was just a big meal and he had a lot to let go? hahah not sure.

Probably. Unless this becomes a regular occurrence I wouldn't worry about it.

If it becomes regular what could be the problem?

Is it odd to anyone else that a snake so small is pooping anything at all right now?

well he has had 3 pretty big meals, wouldn't it be odd if he hasn't pooped at all yet? He has put on 30 grams in 3 weeks and it was on 1 mouse hopper and 2 rat pups, he has to poop that out sometime right?

Sure, some. From personal experience, however, when my girls were popping rat pup's every 5 days they weren't pooping hardly at all. Absorbing most of it for growth. Maybe they both just liked to hold it in, I guess.

He pooped and peed again today that's the third time since I fed him on Monday the 26th. Poop looks normal however. Guess its not to big of a deal maybe the rat pup I fed him was to big? I don't know. Has anyone else ever had a snake that has pooped and peed 3 times in one week?

Perhaps it just built up and he finally decided it was time??? My boy finally dropped one a few days ago <seems to found a use for the cool side hide, little butthead hid it.>.... have had him since early July. Yup, seems these guys go when they are ready no matter how much we tell them to go.

Well like I said I fed him 3 times already. The first time no poop the second week he pooped after I fed him and now the third feeding he pooped twice the day after and again today. So that's three times he poops in one week after a feeding. But nothing was built up because he had gone the week before that as well from that weeks feeding.
