    Pregnant Rat??
Trying to find our if she's pregnant I've had her with a male for 6 weeks now. I went on vacation for a week came back and I noticed a difference, not really sure though. This is my first colony, so still learning.

Hard to tell in that picture. If she is, she'll look like she swallowed a baseball in no time at all :)

In my opinion she loos like it I just think she's around 1 1/2 weeks in. I just want to double check, and see if not I'm going to try a new male.

She looks like she might have a little bump going on, especially in the last pic. I thought the same thing with one of my girls, as soon as I put a new male in, she started showing lol

Looks like she may have a little bump there, but hard to tell for sure. If she is she'll be getting big in no time though. How old is the male you have in with her? And how old is she?

I agree with there is a good chance because the last pic looks like a nice bulge in the belly. Is there a way to get a pic from directly from above the rat looking down at her?

I think both are around 5 moths old the male may be a little older not sure. I do know he should have gotten the job done for as big as his balls are.

Hmmmm that's really tough to tell. Another week or so and we should know for sure. However, I am leaning more towards she she's not prego right now.

I dunno maybe it's just that she gained a lil weight while I was gone for a week . Just googled female rat weight and it looks like average is 200- 300g.

This is probably the most frustrating thing ive been thru in this trade. Feeders are always to far away for me so I'm always wasting a lot of gas. I've been trying to establish a colony for almost 2 months now with no luck. :tears:

Is there any way you can get a colony that is already breeding?

You just have these 2 together? Do you have any other females in with them? My males usually are in a min 1.3 tub but 1.4 is the norm. Only way to tell who the problem lies with. Lol

I just assume the people I get rats off of wouldn't want to sell me breeders ect ... since I'm giving them money every week for rats. I don't even know what's a fair price to offer for 3 establised females and a male.

Yeah I only have the male and female together. No other females, I did buy 2.7 last expo Greg and I wanted to isolate them before adding them to the rack. I put them all in a 40 gal breeder I woke up and a agressive female siamese killed every single rat.

She had one half eaten when I seen all of them dead there was food water hides ect. Like I said I have had the worst luck trying to start my colony up.

Ouch that's rough. Hopefully you'll have a better go at it this time!

Just a suggestion. Next time you go to the pet store to get rats buy a lot of extra. Then feed off the rest you don't need to make a 1:4 colony.

Just give it a little more time. It will happen soon enough.
Stress can make rats sterile, so it could just be that they were just settling in.

It's weird because I hear her yip sometimes, they're in a isolated room so I go to check and he has her on her back like she's being submissive.

I've come to the conclusion that she doesn't like him or he doesn't know what he's doing. I'll give it another 2 weeks with him then I'm going to pick up some more at the upcoming show so I can switch him out.

    No more killer rats though...

When you stop by Jim's, see if he has any spare females. If he doesn't, I have some younger girls that I could spare for you. Jim can call or text me. They would need some time to grow up before they could breed though. I won't be home til after 8:30 tonight though.

A little update she was pregnant and poped out 13 on her very first litter a lil over a week ago!!

Here is a pic of the first 3 that I fed off, I felt really crappy doing it to. My first pups to be born then I gotta feed em off like that, didnt think I would get attached to breeding and raising rats.
