But that doesn't make it any easier.
One of my prickly sticks at work passed away today. I had seen her since she was a nymph and worked with her a lot- most of the sticks brown out but she stayed bright green her whole life, so we took her out a lot because she was big stick and really pretty. And a turd. She'd kick and scratch when you tried to pick her up. I called her Cob- crabby old bat (or another 'b' word of your choice)
When the sticks stop laying eggs, they pass away some time after. I knew that she had stopped producing eggs awhile ago, so I knew she was at the end of her life. But I wasn't happy to see her on the floor of the cage today :( Though, she never lost her spunk. When I lifted her out, she weakly tried to kick me again. Thats my girl!

RIP pretty girl<3 I don't know if there's a bug heaven, but if there is, I hope it's stocked full of the blackberry's you used to chow through like a horse and full of buddies that you can teach to be little stinkers and kick the handlers.
And I definitely got emotional holding her today while she was dying :( I can safely say I've cried over a bug. It was just hard seeing her lay in my hand after seeing her healthy and kicking (literally).
