Hi I'm new, and there's a problem...

Well, I have been reading for about sox months and I need help on convincing my mom to let me have a ball python. Please help!:please:

What kind of animal experience do you have??

And what are your Mom's concerns??

Get a job, get good grades, otherwise be a model child :)

I was not able to start getting pets of my own unless I saved up and bought them myself. Find a way to earn money (if you're too young for a job, try negotiating extra chores for extra $$) and save it up until you can afford the snake, cage, and food. That is usually a great way to show responsibility and maturity deserving of a pet snake. :)

Ok, I've had lots of fish, and my old dog Ellie who watches over me in heaven, and my two alive dogs Sammy and Gracy. Cutest jack russels ever! My mom is deathly scared of snakes and Arachnida.

Oh, and I would take care of it. EVER SINGLE DAY!!!!!!! Until its dying day. I don't care about morphs, I just love the snake

And I definetely have the money for this. Remember that I have been researching for awile

If she's afraid if then it might be harder...is that the main reason you don't have one yet?? Or is she more concerned about the care aspect??

Ok, I'll be truthful, I don't know the exact answer, but I could start with about 300 US dollars for the caging, about 8 bucks a month for food, and if I rescue a ball from petco, that's about 25$

Burrito, in my personal experience, parents cannot be convinced if they are afraid of something. However, if they are just concerned about the care aspect, or are unsure about what snakes are all about, I'd just present them with the data you've been putting together. Be calm and reasonable, and they usually will be in return. I had to wait for almost a year before I got my parents to let me get a snake, and in the end my pleading didn't affect them that much. It was the well put together research that I had that did the job.

But seriously, what is their point? I didn't read the whole thread...:confusd:

this x 2. except instead of a snake, cage, and food, save up for a snake, food, and a thermostat. thermostat first IMO. you can always get the cage later and keep it in a $5 tub from walmart. but a decent thermostat would be my first purchase, even before the snake.

Here is a different prospective.

Sometimes you just don’t convince parent you respect their wishes / rules, not saying that by educating your mom and being responsible she would not warm up to the idea but it is a possibility that you need to take in consideration as well.

Growing up my parents let me any anything (birds, hamsters, turtles etc) except for the one thing I wanted the most a snake.

The good news is when you are truly passionate it never goes away and when you are on your own you can finally live your passion.

Now I have no idea how old you are since in one thread you are mentioning that you are a biologist and in this one you are apparently living with your mom.

If you are old enough to be a biologist then you should be old enough to be on your own and therefore own a snake without needing anyone’s approval.
If you are a minor living under your mother’s roof you can either convince her or not.

The things that will need to be addressed are

First and foremost educating her about the animal you wish to own.

Proving her that YOU will be responsible, this means provide for your animals need which includes financial needs (food, vet bills etc)
Understanding that the animal you plan on acquiring is a long time commitment 30 years or more, what if you go to college will she be stuck with YOUR snake?

Ect

Once you address all those points if she still refuses then you need to respect her wish.

Have you sat down and talked with her about this? Do you know what her exact objections are?

My best advice, be as calm and adult like as possible, and don't push her too hard all at once. Maybe show her how much you know about taking care of them and how harmless they are even at full size. Cats and dogs kill/hurt far more people each year than snakes do.

But you need to understand that at the end of the day she has the final say. You might just have to wait until you are out on your own. Try to stay positive.

Multiple people in this thread including myself have given you advise on the situation with your mom, but you only seem to be interested in the other junk. How old are you really? Your behavior and posts resembles that of a troll. If you are just here "to stir the pot", then maybe you should find another forum. People are genuinely trying to help you here to learn about these snakes and all you can do is keep making reference to a subject that is now closed. I will tell you this, keep pushing the issue and the mods and admin will come after you like a wild fire. They do not and should not have to put up with this crap. Most of them work all day and don't always get a chance to be on here, so just keep pushing and see what will happen.
