Gosh now I want a sunglow BCI!

Well thanks to all of you bad influences out there, I've fallen in love with the sunglow BCIs. I've promised myself that I will only have 1 boa, since it will only be a pet, because I am stocking up on ball pythons to breed in a few years. Problem is, I currently have a dumerils boa. But aesthetically speaking, I think the sunglows are much more attractive. Size isn't an issue which hasn't helped in my predicament. And I think a sunglow would make a much better display snake.
But my dumerils being my first boa, and having her for over a year now, I feel a sentiment towards her. Gosh I'm so torn!! Please tell me someone else has been in the same position!

Thats an easy fix! Get the dumerils a boy/girl friend. then get yourself a sunglow male and a motley het albino female. That way its not "just" a pet. its a business investment! problem fixed. haha :P

If I could have them I would. But recently I've thought about selling my dumerils and getting a female sunglow. Just looking for a better, good sized display snake.

you will regret getting rid of your dum if you do! They have completely different personalities than red tails! I love both but I'd never give up my big dum girl!

You might have just convinced me to keep my dum! Mine is only about 4 feet now, when she gets older I will her her a nice PVC cage. Right now she burrows all the time and you never see her. Will she make a good display snake as she gets older?

my big girl never burrows but then again I dont give her enough aspen to completely hide. she was a rescue and when I first got her I didnt see her for at least a month! now she comes to the front of her enclosure everytime I come in the room. Shes my favorite boa ever! i've had lots of red tails and havent ever had one that seemed to beg for attention.

What size enclosure is she in? And how big is she?

shes 6'7" 45 lbs. shes in an iris ve 175 tub 52"L x20"W x12"H. they are Christmas tree boxes that you can find at walmart during the winter months.

Oh dude,, this is totally true. I didn't think you were going to give up a snake to get a snake.

As stated two completely different snakes and you have your Dums that you've LOVED (I've seen your posts) so giving it up is not an option. Just get the BCI and have 2. Yeah they are more active and semi arboreal and all that, but you have raised up a nice Dums to this point and that is a special snake.

Plus who's gonna say "You can't go wrong with a Dumerils Boa!" LOL!

Snakes... now I get why Adam and Eve had such an issue. It just clicked! We all know it, you can't just have 1. And even when you swear up and down that you'll only get 1, we all end up getting another, and another. It's just too hard to not commit adultry on our first snake. They're all just so g'dam amazing. I WANT MORE!!! :taz::taz::taz:

Don't get rid of the Dum! You will regret it. I love my baby - they are really cool snakes to have.

This is an easy problem to solve. Just keep the Dum, get the sunglow, and get rid of your balls. :P

Seriously, once you get into boas, balls can't hold a candle. ;)

I agree, but our little Royal is our first so we have to keep her.

Once you are a pet in our family, you are here til the bitter end LOL!

But, truly there is nothing like a boa unless those retics that are just the right size are worth a look.

I think BC's are just perfect and I don't really feel the need to search further like I did with our Royal.

That said, keep what you've got and just add to it.

The only reason I don't have more is because I have a wife to please.

Which is why I sold my bp collection with the exception of my albino project and started beefing up my boa collection!

See, tarantulas are cool, but my roommate now who is a HUGE country boy is terrified of spiders.hahaha

No, that was including those 3. The date I posted here was the same day those babies actually arrived, so I officially had 17 in my possession at the time I posted this. LoL! :D


And, yes, there is a real addiction going on here. I am eagerly contemplating my next addition...... :rolleyes:
