Ball Python Feeding Tube..Not what it Sounds Like..lol
...So I was bored thinking of a way to feed my snake live but I don't like putting the rat in the snakes enclosure ..I am also not a fan of feeding in another enclosure... so I came up with an Idea.. the photos below are self explanatory ... I can easily slide container out if need be for the snakes safety as this was one of my concerns ...the first attempt was a success as he went down in the tub, struck and then actually pulled the dead rat back up to his enclosure and fed...

Very nice! That's a creative way to offer the prey items. Props!

Really really clever! How did the engineering of the tank-to-tub go? Did you do it yourself or co-op with someone? Inquiring minds need to know, lol.

..... I have a cap that fits in the hole that gets covered with the substrate so he won't go down in the tub when not feeding .... no sharp edges all rounded off...

...... It took him a little while to figure it out, I'm hoping that after a few feedings he'll get familiar with the process of locating the meal. If it ok to do so on the site I'll try to get some video footage of him going into tube then going back up into his enclosure.

    Video would definitely be cool.

Only question I can think of....

I don't feed live anymore but when I did I was always on stand by with something I can shove in the rats mouth if it was in a position where it could bite the snake while it was being constricted, can you do this with your setup? It seem's like you could, meaning pull out the feeding bin if need be, but what happens if the snake is 1/2 way in both the feeding bin and the normal enclosure while constricting his food? Looks like maybe you can spin the feeding tub 90 degrees?

Yeah I was concerned about safety I can slide it out with one hand ( see pic ) and actually that's how he was half and half , he just went in reverse with the rat in his mouth and into his hide... worked a lil better than I thought, I figured he might go back up after he fed , or I would have to remove him from tub and replace him in enclosure.

That's awesome! Maybe a tad over complicated since you can feed in enclosure, but awesome nonetheless lol. It reminds me of the Habitrail tubes for hamsters.

I wonder if anyone's ever made tubes for a snake enclosure like that. Anyone need a new project? ;)

Lol my mother in law wanted me to do something like that for my rat rack. Haha so not happening. It's enough of a pain to clean the rack in general, let alone if I had a bunch of tubes to deal with.

When I was little we had the Habitrail setups for hamsters, they're a horrible idea lol! They get in them and pee and they get all disgusting and the tubes can get knocked apart really easily or they can chew their way out of them. Idk how many escaped hamsters we had over the years. Hamsters are some evil little buggers.
