    What to get?
Soon I will be rebuilding my collection. I will have around $10,000 to start out with. I know I am going to be getting a blackhead male and most likely going to be getting a pied male as well as some triple gene male with pin in it, not sure what exactly yet. So with those already stated what females would you get? I know het pied females already but other than those what would you get? The amount I will have is after racks and rodents and all of that fun stuff. That is only for snakes.

Maybe looking into the clown combos? Bumblebee clowns are wicked! Champagne would also be pretty awesome. Just mine opinion though :D

i would get 8 enchi or mojave females :)

or, to be more close to your scenario, 3 guaranteed het pied females and 5 enchi or mojave females.

But then, with 10000 dollars, you may have the funds to go for two-gene females.

But then, you really should buy females first and worry about males later.

What is the plan? quick results or the regular way?

Normal to slow, but effective, would be, starting with 10000 dollars: Get female hatchlings, raise them up, start buying males one year later.

But you want a blackhead and a pied male, what for? Unless you already have the females, what is the point? Females take (2-)3 years to sexual maturity, males only 1 year. Given that prices for morphs all generally go down, why would you start with males?

Stick with recessives. They hold their value better than codoms and doms. I'd invest in codom het females, raise them up then get a codom visual recessive male to go to all those females. That's what I'd do/am doing slowly atleast.

I want the blackhead and pied because I love them. The end result will have a blackhead pied in there. I also want to get some red axanthic going on so I was thinking of getting a red axanthic female. Most likely I will be getting some females that are a year old. I would get the hatchling females and wait a yea but I really don't want to wait that long. I have seen most of what I have said available and I know I can find females that are up to weight no problem. With the funds available that I have the females shouldn't be a worry.

i am a bit confused..... so ill just share an awesome article that will hopefully help you a lot.

I hope you like it. And for the thread in question, i dont know what the plan is, where it shall go. And no matter where you want to go, buying males first probarbly wont get you there effectively.

I am very aware of breeding ball pythons as I have done it for years. I know ages, weights, everything such as that. I also know that if I get females that are at least a year old and hatchling males then in about a year all will be ready to breed at the same time which negates the "get the females this year and get the males next year" With the males I have in mind the end results would be pied black heads, pieds, black heads, pin mixed in there, red axanthic mixed in there, and a few others. The point of this thread is to find out what people would get if they had those finances and had picked those males. Maybe it will help me with some ideas and give a little more direction.

    Re: What to get?
Like Pythonfriend said always always buy your females first, they take longer to grow out. If you buy females later when they're bigger depending on the morph you spend about twice as much sometimes more.

The only way I could see some one starting out and getting male heavy is if they had a split collection with a friend or some one they was working with during breeding. So they could split profits and have right on females in the clutch since they owned the Sire ect...

Pick out the females you want then build your males off that.

If I had that kind of dough, I'd skip the hatchlings and buy breeder or almost breeder sized females and your males right off the bat. Then you don't have to spend hundreds or perhaps thousands on feeding and housing for ~3 years while you wait for them to get up to size. You could potentially start getting a return on your investment this season. Just my .02

this all sounds really fishy. i mean, 10000 dollars but seemingly unexperienced.

In this case, how many female breeders are the goal? 5 or 10 or more? You can get a lot of BPs for 10000 dollars, what is the plan, what is the idea?

How do racks and tubs look like?

i dont know what to think exactly, but it does not feel right.

    Re: What to get?
Well for experience I have been keeping and breeding since I was 16 and am currently 32 so there is no lack of experience. The racks that I am getting ready to build are melamine. I am doing 6 high and 3 wide per rack because for me that gives the most stability. The tubs are purchased at Wal-mart rubbermaid tubs various sizes. My goal for right now is to have 3 males and 10-15 females depending on the females that I end up getting. I currently do not have any snakes due to some issues I had in my life. While I have been away from reptiles I have been saving money so when the time is right I can get back into them. The end plan is to have everything purchased by the end of November and next year start pairing which would be why I said I am going to be getting subadult females and hatchling males. Less wait time means quicker return and faster to the end result I want. What I really want to produce is a black head pied, a red axanthic pied, and a pin pied. I also want to produce other little things here and there but those 3 are the end results which would be why I said a black head male, pied male with het females, pin combo male, and a red axanthic female. The rest are still up in the air for me. I have decided on 4 females and 2 males with the third unsure what I want him to be exactly but I do know I want pin in him.

Ummm why would I get a GHI when I have no desire to have them at this time? I thought I was pretty clear in what I was asking but apparently not. So I will reword it as simply as possible. What females would you get if you had a black head male, a pied male, and a pin combo male? I am already planning on the het pied females and a red axanthic female. Also what would you get as the combo for the pin? Does that make it a little easier?

I am seriously not trying to be rude and if I have come off that way please excuse me for it. I was not expecting this to be such a difficult question.

I'm not sure if you like the lighter stuff (I do :) ) but I'd get a butter/lesser het pied, or maybe a pastave. Those would also pair well with your pin, IMO. I'm pretty sure I saw a pair of firefly het pieds on Kingsnake. I'd kill for those!

Yeah, this guy loves to make stuff up. Recognized the username but didn't say anything until now because there isn't harm done here. I don't get it though...

SnowShredder The first link you posted is very much me and if you actually read the entire thread, mainly the last few, you would see that I have admitted my wrongs. The second link however is not me at all. I do not know who that is nor do I care.

Oh I did read the entire thread as it went on. I posted it to show making stuff up is your style. I totally get you admitted your wrongs, and that's great. I just thought you'd be honest from now on

Tattlife- weren't you living with your brother? If so, $10k goes a long way towards a down payment on a house. Just a thought!

To answer your question, maybe get a lavender albino, a mojave combo, and an ultramel for the boys you've listed. Almost anything looks good pied- you could have dreamsicles, an ultrablast (there was one floating around here recently, but I can't remember who has it), and some sweet blackhead mojaves! Obviously all of those breeding pairs would be interchangeable- lavender albino pins, ultramel mojaves, golden nuggets (mojave pied)...

I'd have to say a bannana for a male, being codom he can go along way with females and still hold better value than pieds, sure get a pied female also but banbana and ghi males are the way to move in the future I have one high white female pied I just got today and picked her up for 750 so there value is def dropping, right now it's in a slump plus our recession I don't recomend doing it for anything but the live if it

    Re: What to get?
Yes I am living with my brother at the moment. I have more than that amount saved up that is what I have for snakes. My wife and I are going to be moving back to her home state of Washington in September which is when I am going to be doing everything. We have a rather nice place waiting for us just waiting for it to be finished.

I do like the idea of lavs they are in my top 20. Mojave never even crossed my mind honestly but will now be thought more about. I never thought of going for a black head mojave I now have to see what they look like. I really appreciate all the feedback here and have narrowed things down a lot.

I am going to avoid the cg because even though it is beautiful it isn't something I honestly want in my collection. Same goes with GHI. I am not hoping to make my living off of this I just want to do it because I love being around the animals and it is a good way to teach my son about a lot of different things in life.

Personally, I'd get one or two Mojaves just because there are many great things done with that gene, and I'm personally partial to it. Some other options, given your males, that would be nice are lighter females: fireflies, super pastels, lessers / butters, etc. For the pied male, I'd get some pretty codom het pied females, like pastel het pied, fire het pied, etc.

If you want the challenge of double recessive, lavender albino pied and axanthic pied are both pretty spiffy in my opinion. I'm not familiar with blackhead, but for the pin, I'd personally stick to the lighter girls I mentioned. If you haven't already, maybe also consider a leopard as an option, though that will run you about $1,000 or so for a hatchling female, but they do some amazing things.

It all depends on your game plan- get a bunch of [relatively] inexpensive females (like a bunch of subadult het pieds, plain) and a select few expensive knock outs, or a bunch of girls in the middle, etc. There's a lot to be considered.

On a separate note: it's not my job to question your character, whether this is hypothetical or actual, it does no harm to anyone. Whether you're lying or not doesn't affect my ability to answer "if you had 10k what would you get". Either way: happy herping, glad you're back on your feet.

    Re: What to get?
I have thought about the leopard and from what I understand about them they are all het pied as well so that is an added bonus with them. I think the only reason I have decided not to get one with the initial group is because I was wanting to breed next season... But then again if I get some nice het pieds that are almost or at breeding weight and a few others and get the leopard as a baby it may be best... Ugh Talking myself in circles in my own head here to put one on the list or not.

Just to be very clear as of right now I have not purchased a single snake. They will be purchased after we get into our place in Washington. Same with racks and all of that. The time line for me is to get the rodent racks built and running then the snake racks then get the snakes. After that build the incubator over the winter and next year start the breeding. Everything is starting in mid to late September.

You're the second person I've seen that has said something about all leopards being het pied. I'm so confused, can someone provide me some linkage or info about this?

I could be dead wrong but it is what I keep hearing. In one of the lastest snakebytes vids Brian is at Pete Kahls place and talks about them and I am pretty sure he said something along the same lines.
