    Eggs
My female is on day 34 after her prelay shed. I'm nervous cause I'm going camping with my family Tuesday. Which will be day 37.

She is in a tub and I'm worried about loosing the eggs when I'm gone.

    Any tips?

    Suggestions?

I would get someone lined up to watch, that could get the eggs in the bator for you, or see if there is a breeder nearby that would take her in while your gone. (They would know exactly what to do).

There is a thread posted just this morning from someone who found her girl on eggs after being gone 5 days and one looks like it may be a lost cause. And while the others look fine currently, who knows how consistant the temps have been while the mother was on them. Just my 0.02 since you asked.

People allow maternal incubation all the time. I would research what they do to prep their tubs, ie. making a lay box with moss, and then they'll be safe until you get back.

I had the same concerns before my girls laid. Just make sure your temps are right, 89 is recommended as with normal incubator and give her damp cypress mulch substrate to keep the humidity up while you're gone. If she's anything like my girls she will make you worry all week and then wont lay anyway :P

I've gone away for four or five days when I was expecting eggs. I would fill the bin with damp moss before I left. I've always come home and the eggs were fine.

Just make sure you can keep the humidity up and the temps super stable. She will likely lay them on the warm side.

Temps are stable at 89 in her tub. Humidity is about 60-70%. Eggs need near 100%. Right?

I have no one to watch over her and don't know any local breeders.

I have a lot of wholes in her tub to keep the humidity at 60-70. Should I cover up the wholes to raise humidity?

You don't want to make the female overly stressed by making her enclosure uncomfortable. If she lays while you're away, the humidity surrounding the eggs trapped within her coils will be higher than the ambient humidity and if your numbers are right you should have nothing to worry about. :)

Should I just let her incubate her owns eggs if I come home and she has them? This will be my first clutch.

Incubator is on and at temp. 88-89. Humidity 96%

That is entirely up to you but if you want to go the maternal route, be sure to read up on it. There are several of us here that do it this way but I think it's safe to say that the majority of breeders prefer to be in the driver's seat and have total control over their clutches and this isn't the case with maternally incubated clutches.

Twisted like a pretzel is a good thing. Sounds like she is positioning the eggs so she can lay. They should be out any day now.

I will post a few pictures when I get home. Yes I'm pretty sure. She ovulated on June 15th ( looks huge like she ate a football ) prelay shed was on July 7th.

Is this required? She always sheds in one piece. Well when she is shedding I normally put a bigger water bowl in.

Should I put that in now?

Interesting. She has ovulated & shed. Her back is ridged too.

I mean she did ovulate and prelay shed almost on schedule. But laying has been delayed.

    What's everyone think?

I'll offer food later & see if she takes it.

Is this common for her to ovulate & not give eggs?

This site says she will lay 44 days from ovulation. Which would be in a few days. Not sure what's going on.

I'll try feeding her after work today.

    That site says this:

    "

    Finally ....Ovulation!

People often ask, "How do I know when my female is ovulating?" Trust me...there is no mistaking it! She looks like she has swallowed a jumbo rat. She is hard. She is miserable. And she is huge! You can see the swelling 3/4's of the way down. 44 days till eggs!

    "

Which is ok with my situation. But then it says 27days from last shed. Which has past for me. It says this:

    "

    Pre-lay Shed

Shortly after ovulation, most females go into a pre-ovulation shed cycle. They usually shed 16 days after. From this date my females usually lay 27 days later...give or take a few days. The pre-lay shed is the best date from which to start your countdown!

    Re: Eggs
Carefully remove her from the eggs and run your fingers down the length of her, pressing gently into her abdominal cavity with your thumb resting on her back bone. You'll definitely feel an egg. If you feel one, just put her back and feel again in a couple hours.

Be sure you clean her tub very thoroughly so there's no egg scent left or she may not want to start eating again and just look for her eggs. Mine called down pretty quick. That is if you're incubating the eggs vs maternal incubation. I'm just going to assume you know what to do with the eggs and everything, so just let us know if not.

    Congrats!

    Re: Eggs
Congrats! I caught my first clutch being laid and I checked on her a couple of hours later to see that she was done. When she's laying, her tail will be towards the inside of her coils. Once she's done, the tail will appear on the outside of her coils. I also second the idea of running your hand down her belly when you pull her off. They look like deflated balloons or pancakes after they lay so if there is an egg left, it's VERY obvious.

So she laid 7 eggs. All look nice & white. I used a flashlight and could see tons of veins in all eggs.

I put them in the incubator and washed her off very good and put her in a new tub. She isn't coiled anymore and is drinking now.

All seems well. Here's a picture

There was nothing anyone could do here. You didn't describe anything wildly out of the ordinary. I know it's easy to get stressed out while waiting for nature to take its course, just remember that nature is taking its course. Sure enough, she laid an hour later. Like the first post said when you described her pretzeling, that is a good sign. There is a lot of waiting involved in this whole thing.

If we hit day 65 of incubation and nothing seems terribly wrong but your eggs haven't hatched, just remember there isn't anything we can do for you but tell you everything is going to be fine and pat you gently on the back. These guys have been laying eggs on their own and the eggs have hatched on their own for much longer than mammals have been attempting to use advanced brain functions to climb the ladder of evolution.

Breeding reptiles is a great experience to sit back and not over think things and enjoy the wonder of life.

I checked mine, candled and wiped away condensation about every 2 weeks, add briefly as possible. Do NOT torn the eggs over, keep them in the same orientation as you first picked them up.
