creature of habbit
So from what i've read beyond instinctive "emotions" such as hunger, fear...
I don't think they develop any affection, just tame from being used to being in contact with us.
What i want to know is your opinion on the snakes forming habits?
ex: almost every time i feed my normal girl she drags the food into her water.
When i come home and sit at the desk she's on top of she comes out of her hot hide to the glass, looks around at me and then into the cold hide.

I don't think they're capable of any deep thought, but I do think they're smarter than most people would give them credit for.
Mine are masters of the pitiful, oh I'm so starved puppy dog eyes. I'm convinced of it.

Many snakes learn their feeding routines down pat-- come feeding day, they're ready before the lids are opened. Magnus is also familiar with my pre-handling touches. They've got routines, just like us. =]

my hog is kind of a pain to feed sometimes, i had them feed him at the shop before i bought him and he jumped out the tub for food right away... i've gotta dance the pinks for him..PIA...wish he had a better routine.

Lol mine does what I call the weekly hunger dance. I'm accustomed to seeing her out at night rearranging her tank n climbing but every Tuesday night (I feed Wednesday) she get as close as she can to the top of her viv while pressing against the glass n sways left to right she stops for a while to turn her hides upside down n generally make a mess then goes right back at it lol. Habit? You tell me lol

More like a quirk then habit, but Tali's tank is in my room so if I'm cleaning or otherwise doing things, she will usually come out and check out what I'm doing.
She also knows when it's feeding time, and will be trolling the tank before I start thawing and when I do... she sits underneath the mice in the baby bird 'feed me' posture. Some body told me I needed to feed her in a separate enclosure and I just laughed... yeah no, I'm not moving her when she knows its dinner time. I like my hands.

Yep. Every fifth day Allure is at the glass in the morning all stretched out, looking at me like "Uh where's my rat already? I've been waiting all night."
Another habit he has is to chill with me on the bed for a while, then try to go from my bed, to the desk, to the bar under the desk, to the floor. He's only made it as far as the bar one time while I got caught up reading something on here. He's gotta try though. A climate controlled environment tailored to his needs, water, and food on a regular schedule isn't as good as roaming the house.

My bigger ball python associates peppermint scent with feeding, since I always wash my hands with peppermint scented soap right after I feed (and a lot of times before) then go back to watch them eat. That, or she just likes peppermint. Anyways, I almost got nailed today while changing water after a potty break. (Like civilized people, I always wash my hands after wiping.)
I think a lot of animals, such as ball pythons, are smart enough of to learn patterns, such as the dogs in Ivan Pavlov's experiments. People like to call it conditioning, but the animal learns it nonetheless, correct? That has to count as some form of intelligence.

They can learn simple things. More or less pre-programmed.
A certain scent with knowing that it's not harmful.

Dovah comes out almost every night between 7-9 to cruise around his tank and get a drink of water :)

That's awesome. You should film it.

I have a few pictures on my mom's phone, but she's gone right now so I can't get them off D:
He just ate so he probably won't be coming out for a day or 2. :(
I promise I'll get some pics/vids next time he's out :)
