When can you breed a boa
I was given a 0.1 RTB and she is at least 3yrs old and she has grown quite a bit since I got her but I was wondering when the females are the proper size/ age to breed she is at 2500g now and I would like to put her to my buddies salmon male.

When can you breed a boa
Everything I've seen says four years and at least 10 pounds.

I've read four years old and six feet long is the minimum.

Yup - and the answers are still the same. :gj:

Since you indicated her current weight here, I should add that 2500 gm is not very large for a boa. I have a male 2010 Argentine that is about 4000 gm and is only just now ready to breed. I would have to say that a female at 2500 is no where near ready. Please be patient - you'll do your female more harm than good by rushing her.

Rule of thumb, again, is 3-4 yrs old and about 10 lbs and/or about as big around as a 20oz bottle of soda. And for the record, 10 lbs = about 4500 gm.

Your right and I was just going to wait or not breed her but I've had her for a few months and she has really grown I guess since I breed rats and have a ready supply and she eats about every ten days. The other my buddy noticed how much she had grown and brought it up again. I could not remember what the replies had been. There is a good market in this area for affordable boas and I have a pet store that will take most of them. Just thinking about it. My balls are keeping me pretty busy right now but its a thought.

I think we posted at the same time, lol. See my thoughts above....

I would hope your buddy wouldn't push you into anything. Boas especially need to be up to size and in good condition because they give birth to live young. That can use up their body's resources faster.

Wow, your male is bigger than my 2010 female!! She's just over 3600g and about 6 1/2 feet right now. In the blue though!

Please give her another year or two before you even consider breeding her. And don't power feed her to try and make her grow either!!

Thank you for the posts folks, I am in no hurry to breed her honestly I may never breed her she is very sweet and I took her as a pet because my daughter n law is pregnant and didn't have time or room for her. I was just curious more than anything and am primarily interested in balls. I took her as a favor because she loved the snake and new I would give her proper care. She will most probably remain a very sweet pet to hold and enjoy.

Nice looking BCI. She's about the same size my Argentine was a few months ago.

Yea, I gotta get a more current weight. Honestly, I was estimating. But I saw the pic you posted of your female and I think my boy is just about the same size as she is. So his weight is probably closer to 3800 gm. When they get to be that big, 200 gm isn't much. LoL! :gj:

If he's anything like mine, he'll be hard to get an accurate weight on. Evita is such a spazz! Not mean in the least bit, but very busy lol.

Yeah, she is by far my favorite snake. Just have to keep an eye on her when she's out of the cage lol.
