Racking my Brain on What to Get :(
So far I think I've decided on a sugar female.

I know I want to produce reduced patterns/BELs/Ivorys/Pied/Albinos. I understand what makes what, there's just so many decisions that I don't know what to get?

I know from the 3 females I get I'll know what male to get down the line but until then. can I get some recommendations on what to get besides the Sugar? I know I'll have to spend some coin to get both albinos and pieds so it'll probably be one or the other, I'm just not sure :(

Any help is much appreciated as you guys know the morphs and combinations in your head while I'm spending hours on the Genetic Calculator!

Do you like the look of Spieds (Piebald x Spider)? They're an all white snake except for the head of the Spider morph. If so, a nice reduced pattern Spider het Pied could be one of your girls.

If your going with a sugar female i'd get a male with some pastel in it. high white pastel sugars are one of my favorite looking snakes.

I would save your coin and go for a pied female. Then again pieds are my soft spot haha

I would get a pied female first, then in a year or two get a male albino. Then you will be able to breed the two together,to get the albino pied. That's the plan I'am working on for myself. You can't go wrong with pied anything.

You'd have to get a male albino het pied to get any visuals in the first breeding season. But he'd be pretty useless unless all/most of your girls carried albino or pied genes. Best bet is to get a visual male that's het for whichever recessive gene you prefer (or both :))

Plus the pied female would need to be het albino as well.

you know what you want to make stick to your plan get a reduced pattern butter lesser or mojo to make you bel i like butter better lol do you want to make albino pieds or albinos and pieds because het albino females are not that much and just get a visual male later and you wouldnt have to worry about 66% hets same would go for pieds as well

x2 on this. i would keep saving your money up until you can afford a visual (homozygous) pied or albino female. when you have to spend three years growing her up, you'll be happy you did. plus, you never have to worry if any of her babies are hets or not. that is a HUGE advantage.

Yeah, go search kingsnake.com or faunaclassifieds. I am sure you will find some probably in the $650 - $850 range. Price is going to depend on the amount of white, the higher the white the higher the price tag. I agree with the others to get the females first you won't be sorry. Good Luck

At this point I'm thinking Sugar, Fire and Enchi.

After that I want to get a medium to high white Pied, all females of course.

    Thoughts on this idea?

Anyone? I like that they seem to be less commonly used but maybe there's a good reason for that?

sugar, fire and enchi are definitively nice-looking morphs. All 3 are good genes to work with that can make some beautiful stuff, and super fires and super enchis are also very nice.

But for a recessive project, one plan could be: Male visual pied, and females that are 100% het pied and also have a different gene. A female leopard would also make sense.

or, one step up, male visual pied + extra gene, and female visual pieds, and female het pieds + extra gene.

the male should always be genetically more powerful (or at least with genes that are more expensive), in every breeding you do.

So if you go straight to a female visual pied, you also should get a male visual pied, ideally with an extra codominant in it. And one or two extra females that are het pied, or het pied + extra gene. also it should be one male and 3 females, or at least two females, and all of these pairings should be capable of giving you the visual recessive right away, starting with the first clutches.

So, maybe your shopping list should be:

    - male visual pied
    - female sugar/calico 100% het pied
    - female fire 100% het pied
    - female enchi 100% het pied

and one generation later you can upgrade using your own male and female visual pied + extra gene ball pythons from your own production. If you produce a lot of visuals right away, you will have many pied hatchlings to choose from for holdback, you will hit your pied + extra gene stuff, you will get visual pieds of the gender you need, and can start selling some visual pieds right away.

for codominant and dominant genes its a different story, but for a recessive project, you need to commit to it in order to really get it going. If you have some females that are not 100% het pied, and a male that is maybe just a het pied and not even a visual, and then a nice female visual pied, then your pied project wont really go anywhere. it will just stutter along and het pied and possible het pied floats around in your collection and it may be a decade until you reach a point where you have a breeding group of male and female visual pieds with extra genes running.
