Just wanted to start a post about snake names and how u came up with them for your pet snakes. My son came up with two out of the three we have. First there's fin. Which he named from phinious and ferb cartoon. Then Garfield. Cause he said he's fat and from the cartoon. And yaya which my two year old girl named. Post pics room if u can. Here's my boys.

I may get some crap for this, but I don't have names for my BP's. Its not like they will come to me when I call them. My kids on the other hand have taken the liberty to give them all names. :D

I name all my ball pythons after Adventure Time characters. :D You can see them down there in my signature. :D

Also, if I ever get into breeding California Kings, they'll all be Downton Abbey characters. And all my Crested Geckos are fruits/veggies/legumes. ^_^

My king is Jörmungandr. One of Loki's children in Old Norse Mythology, also called the World's Serpent.
He was thrown into the waters of Midgard (our plane) by Odin where he grew so large he encircled the Earth and bit his own tail. The legend is that when he releases his tail, the world will end.

We had a corn snake way back that we'd named Lieutenant Dan (I have a huge love of Forrest Gump). So we kept with the theme and named our first 2 balls Jenny & Forrest. Our mojave is Allan, from Hangover (we were on a hangover kick). Mufasa & Sarabi....the lion king, obviously lol. FAVE DISNEY MOVIE EVER! I have a bird named Zazu haha. Lastly, there's Charlotte is our spider (Charlotte's Web influenced).

I'd attach a picture, but I don't trust the mobile app haha.

Tali has a few alien heads so I wanted to go scifi themed and I'm a huge fan of Mass Effect and Tali'Zorah vas Normandy is one of my favorite characters :) so that's how Tali got her name. I already picked my next ones name, it was gonna be Talis but I changed my mind when I saw her. Its feom another video game (one of my other favorites), Shadow of the Colossus. Argo :)

My first snake that was actually mine (as opposed to the one I grew up with) is Ryuu, with means dragon spirit in Japanese. I stick with themes with different pets, so all my pet snakes are Japanese, my cats are Greek, the rats are Hindi, and mice are gemstones (only breeders that I become attached to get names for the rodents!). The rescues generally already have names, but I sometimes rename them. Oliver I renamed because he was abandoned and starved (like Oliver Twist :)), and Noni was just being called "no name" at first because he was also abandoned.

My ghost corn is Yokai, which means ghost or spirit, and my tangerine honduran milksnake is Kuroji, which is actually a mash up of the words for black and orange, "kuro" and "orenji".

    Re: snake names
Ours are mostly named after characters in Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology: Antigone, Athena, Heimdallr, Thor, Zeus, Persephone, Pandora, etc. We do have an adult male normal named Flash after the lazy hound dog in the Dukes of Hazzard, because that's about how fast he moves.

    Re: snake names
The snakes which I got myself are named after some sort of food item based on their color(mostly desserts). The adopted ones kept their names.

The new turtles were named after Pokemon and my older girl was named for her pretty flashing eyes. I did go on a run of naming turtles after pork products cause my one was a little piggy and I named him porchop.

The dog came with his name of Ranger.

My wife is going to be naming our pythons after Star Wars Jedi's names lol. There's only two we have right now with names Izzy, and Monty, we are working on a name for our third we have now. With countless Jedi names that leaves a lot of pythons to own lol!!!

DH gets to name all of the boys, and he names them all Dude. If we hatch out a male axanthic bee in the next few days, I have already been informed his name will be Zebra Dude. Bubbles got her name from blowing bubbles in her dish the first morning of QT, she woke me up with the noise and I thought she was trying to drown herself. Cornelia (referencing Cornea, the eye part) came about because DH said 'Crazy Eyes McGee' was inappropriate.

Bowie (my first), Doctor, Seeeemji (silent j) Ghillie, Flashy, Nurse, Spoony, Flossie, Sir, God, Dot, Tammy, Francis, Marlon Brando, Tony, Plainy. There have been others but I can't think of them. Seems like the only baby I hatched and named was Tammy, I haven't named any of my 2012 babies for some reason.

Mine get named so that if in conversation we are talking about one in particular, you just say the name and my fiance and I know exactly who the other is talking about.

My albino girl just got the name Baby Girl. After we got her we were discussing our shopping list for the next day, and had been watching Criminal Minds, and I referenced needing to get some more bedding for her, I didn't have a name, so I just called her Baby Girl like Derrick calls Garcia. It stuck.

My male albino got the name Apollo for his references to being the god of light and sun.

I have a female that got named AJ as in Amber Jr in reference to her being temperamental like little sister is. She gets hissy for something as simple as a shadow being cast on her bin.

My first couple have names, but soon after they became their morph names since I don't have exact duplicates.

I like to give my snakes proper people names, either English or French. I've noticed that a lot of the female names I come up with are super feminine with L's in them. Hiverre is the exception because I was using that name for RP characters. I currently have Nell, Penelope, Camila and Hiverre. Saved for later, I have Veronie, Melanie, and Amelia. Male names are a little harder to come up with. :/

Normal adult girl: Rosca - She came to me with that name from the previous owner. Apparently she WAS named Rosco, until they realized she was a girl.

Bumblebee male: Zerok - My fiancee got him for me as a present, so I let him do the naming. Zerok is a battle post they have where he is currently deployed in Afghanistan.

Pastave female: Persephone- My favorite poem is Garden of Proserpine. Proserpine is pronounced same as Persephone, but I knew people would pronounce it wrong if they were just reading "Proserpine". :P Although in the poem, the writer uses.. um.. I forgot what it's called, but where they purposely use the wrong pronunciation to make rhymes off of. (wine, time, etc)

Normal baby girl: Striker- I'm actually picking her up in about three days. Name describes disposition; extremely snippy despite being worked with by the pet shop for the past two months. Decided to take her off their hands (much to their relief) since she'd discounted, has a nice pattern, and I'm familiar with her. Not bothering to rename her.

And I have a deposit down on a pastel ghost female, and I'm playing around with Esperanza or Jezebel... or Annabel Lee, which is another great poem.

I also have a cat with the lame name of "Lucky", but in my defense she genuinely earned the name with the strange and almost fatal way she came to us. Long story short, she rode 2 1/2 miles on a car battery before being discovered. Thankfully she hadn't fallen off, otherwise... Ick.

I currently call my BP Stupid Head, but I really should come up with a nicer name for him. He's pleasant enough, just a challenge to a new BP mom.

I have a yearling phantom morph corn snake named Lily. And two corn hatchlings: a motley named Zoom-Zoom (he zooms around the enclosure and looks like he has the Mazda symbol on his head) and an unknown morph named Shelby.

I'm a Song of Ice and Fire (aka Game of Thrones for those who haven't gotten to read the books) nerd, so my males are named after the dragons and the females after the Sand Snakes aside from the spider who is Visenya because my male spider is Viserion and I liked how they sounded as a pair even though I probably won't breed them together. After I run out of those, I'll go to the characters' names.
To the person with Tali (I tried to quote, but it didn't work), I LOVE the name! Mass Effect is my favorite video game. I'll probably have a Garrus at some point as well. :)

I had a ton of ideas for male names, but was dead set on a female ball. I'm a huge Dexter (Showtime) fan and in love with the Hannah McKay character. So Hannah was my first thought, but the oldest niece is named Hannah. So I came up with Orchid, which seems to her calling card for Dexter. I came up with it for someone who was trying to name a cat (it didn't stick, I don't think they got it) and the first time I held Orchid it just stuck for her. Once I explained it to my wife she loved the name too and thought it suited our little one.

No True Blood fans it's not because of the vampire god, it's an ancient story about a female demon in the Garden of Eden.

    GREAT NAME!!!!

    Thank you!

What's really crazy, is this was a secular story, but she is mentioned in the bible!

Not in great detail, but there is a biblical mention of her.

Besides this belief in animism, the early Sumerians seem to have believed in ghosts that were related to the world of the dead as the zi was related to the world of the living. The lil or ghost was a night demon of baleful influence upon men, and only to be cast out by many incantations. The lil was attended by a serving-maid (ardat lili, "maid of night") which in the later Semitic development was transformed into the feminine lilitu.

It is most curious and interesting that this ghost demon of the Sumerians lived on through all the history of the Babylonian religion, and is mentioned even in one of the Old Testament prophets (Isaiah 34:14; Hebrew Lillith, translated "night monster").

Little bit of meaning behind my little girls name lol.

Although if I get my way and everything goes as planned with my savings, I should be setting up for my first little guy in a year or so.

My normal didn't come with a name. I just looked at her one day and she looked like an Ella to me. My male pastel someone on the forum here named Picaso. We also call him Mr. Peeker because he hides ALL the time. He only peeks his head out once in awhile. The lesser I just picked up a few weeks ago I decided to name Niya because it's a name I've always liked. We also call her Bitsy sometimes though because compared to my other two she is itsy bitsy lol.

I named my boa Figment for two reasons. One, I like naming my pets after obscure Disney characters (I also currently have a ferret named Gadget!) and Figment is the name of the dragon at Epcot. Two, I always thought that the only snake I ever got to own would just be a "figment of my imagination". So when I actually got a boa, the name was perfect. It fits her so well too. With both Gadget and Figment, I had the names thought out way in advance, and found an animal that it seemed to fit. It's how I picked them.
