How much would you ask for him?

I have an ad up (on another site) for my 4 year-old spider male, and just received an email from somebody interested in buying him. I didn't have a price listed, so what should I ask? I see adult females usually go for around $400, so I was thinking maybe $250-300? I don't want to short myself, but also don't want to look greedy. ;)

Here's a photo of him... haven't weighed him in a while, but he's probably around 1200-1300g. Oh, and he's a proven breeder with hardly any sign of a wobble.

Last I saw they were selling for around 150-200.

Single gene adult males don't go for much more than hatchling single gene males. $150 is a fair price, you would be lucky to get $200. Adult females are worth much more than adult males.

Like others have said, I wouldn't pay over $200.00 for one unless for whatever reason it was just the most amazing example of the gene that I had ever seen.

Thanks all! A little depressing, since I paid $240 for him as a baby, but I know how morphs drop in price over the years. :(

I replied to the emailer, offering him for $175... does that sound fair?

You could sure try. I had to go all the way down to $150 to sell my male a couple year ago and he was gorgeous.

$175 Seems pretty good, new to all this but seems a fair asking price for a proven breeder :) good luck!

$175 sounds like a good start. because no matter what you ask they are almost definitely gonna haggle and try to get you to lower it.

$150-200 is fair imo. You'll probably get closer to $150 though since spiders are so common. You paid $240 for him as a baby but how many clutches has he produced for you and how much money have you made from them? That's how you gotta look at it.

The trouble is: Breeders, if they want good results cost-efficiently, have lots of females. Single gene or multi gene females, maybe even normals. But each male is bred to several females, so for breeding, they want true powerhouse males with lots of genes.

So, being a single-gene spider male, its unfortunately not interesting for breeders, it is a fancy pet.

175 sounds fair, i think maybe you can get it sold for 200-250, but thats the upper limit. It is a very nice pet, but since it only has one gene and its a frequent and easily available gene, its not for breeding.
