Going to Florida for the first time: Any good reptile destinations? :)
Everybody thinks I'm funny for being so excited about going to Florida, but I've never been and I've been trying to go since 2006 and it never worked out. But my boyfriend and I booked our tickets today and solidified the plans so I'm stoked!! And since Florida is herp heaven on the East Coast I'd like some ideas of must-visit places. :) Preferably not too far away from Orlando (we'll be staying in Titusville), since we'll be relying on friends' cars.

http://www.reptileworldserpentarium.com/ - Milking facility! Way cool venomous herps and they do a milking show. It's about 45min from Orlando, and about an hour or so away from Titusville.

http://www.gatorland.com/ - Woot! Gators! about 30min from Orlando, 1hr Titusville

    http://reptilediscoverycenter.com/ - 45min from orlando, 1hr Titusville

That's all for now, I'm sure I can find some more though :D

I don't think I'm quite ready for field herping just yet. I wouldn't want to make a mistake and spend the rest of my vacation in the hospital!

Wow, thanks!! I'll have to see if we can visit some of these places. Especially Gator Land, I think my boyfriend would really like that one too.

We'll be there the 8th through the 12th, so it looks like we'll just miss you! :(

I wanna go to Disney World so bad but everyone else has already gone a million times so they don't want to. :( I've never been!!

If you head over towards Tampa both Busch Gardens and Lowry Park Zoo have decent reptile sections. The Florida Aquarium in Tampa is also a really cool place.

X2 for GatorLand, they have some awesome stuff and if you or your boyfriend are even remotely interested in Alligators, this is a top choice.

Also not sure if you are interested but I know some swampy areas of Florida have airboat tours that are awesome. You have a chance to see some really cool wildlife, I don't know of any near Orlando off the top of my head but I'd check it out :)

    :salute:

I second the alligator farm recommendation. It's about 2-3 hours from where you're staying though :(

The Tampa Lowery Zoo is awesome and one of the top zoo in the country.

The central Florida zoo is about 45 minutes from where you're at and is a great visit. They have pretty nice reptile room as well as a great insect room.
