I bought a cinnamon that might actually be a black pastel?
    http://24.media.tumblr.com/74f1ef96c...6evo1_1280.png

I bought this girl today as a cinnamon. The picture doesn't show off her nice, long connected markings, but I guess the colors and squiggly markings make her look more like a black pastel? I emailed the breeder for some clarification, but if the answer is that she could technically be a black pastel... I know that by breeding her to a cinnamon I'd still get 25% black pastel cinnamons, but if bred back to a cinnamon, the babies would all be cinnamons and black pastels, right? No 8 balls?

I bought her because she's pretty, but I was hoping for super cinnamons. :/

You are correct that's a black pastel. black pastel and cinnamon makes an 8ball. so if you bred a cinny x black pastel back to a cinny you would get super cinny, 8balls, black pastels and cinnamons.

I understand why you're all saying that. I'd say the same thing. But I got her from a reputable breeder with some insane combos, and he says the father's a cinnaglow (the first in the world) and the mother's a pewter... So genetically, how COULD she be a black pastel? :confusd:

If the Pewter was made with Black Pastel it's possible.

Well I even asked for clarification and the breeder says it was a cinnamon pewter. If this picture showed the full length of her body you might see how she's more of a black pastel wannabe. The breeder says he hatches various degrees of colors and some end up looking like black pastels. -shrug- I might as well trust the guy's word and treat her like a cinnamon.

Sorry, I can never figure out how to edit my posts here? Here's another picture:

Ah hey Yote, I was the one over on Tumblr who thought she might be Calico Black Pastel upon first glance. Have you seen her parents? Maybe you'll get some answers upon viewing them.

I'll say that I've seen black pastels that look like cinnys to me (lack of "squiggles" in the alien heads) and black pastels who looks like cinnys (hardly any squiggles with blushing).

Herp world expo? Who'd you pick her up from? I like her, definitely makes me think black pastel over cinnamon!

In that last pic, she has the pattern of a cinny and the color of a black pastel. Probably a dark cinny as the breeder says. I definiitely like her!:)

Thanks for your input, everyone! Apparently the momma pewter is for sale but I failed to notice her yesterday, so I haven't seen the parents. I bought my snake from Keo Santoso of Keo Reptiles. He has one new morph with so many genes he's just labeling it "WTF." lol

Many people believe that cinny and black pastel are just lighter or darker expressions of the same gene mutation. Personally I think they're compatible but different. Subtly different mutations of the same gene. I'm sure that someone with a stronger genetics background could explain it better. But yes you have the possibility of producing a solid colored snake when bred to either a cinnamon or a black pastel. That one does appear to have characteristics of both but the pattern looks cinnamon to me, just really dark.

If the breeder says Cinny then it's probably true. Either way, stunning addition! Reminds me of my cinny as a hatchling :gj:

It's got a lot of cinny traits, but it's got the darkness of a black pastel :gj:. Honestly, if black pastel and cinny were the same thing (i believe theyre different), then you own a perfect hybrid :gj:. If the breeder sold it to you as a cinny, I would just call it a cinny. Any babies you produce would be cinny combos. Congrats on the new smokin pickup!!

I would trust in what Keo said it was, he seems to have a good idea of what he's doing.
