Well yesterday I wento to my local pet store to pick up some substrate because it was thin. But I noticed that they had an adult bp in one of their cages and I asked if I could hold him. It was awsome! I've held colubrids before but bps are totaly different, they are so...thick...and heavy! Now i don't think I can wait much longer. I have the two heat pads at the right temp. Now all I need is a hide and a mouse and I'll be ready to buy him!
-
Are you going to buy the one you held at the store? Also, you probably don't need a mouse right away, should let him settle in before you feed him. When do you think you'll get one?
-
Well I think I'll be gettin' one form alex hue. And the one at the pet sotre was $80! But he was in perfect condition.
-
Wow...$80 is actually a really good buy for an adult bp. Especially if it was female. Did they know the sex?
-
I think he stated that it was a female. And yeha, but I don't have that kind of money. Otherwise she would have bee na good choise.
-
i got to hold a red tail boa the other day when i went to the store then yesterday i got to play with a 2 foot burm ! it was freakin awesome!
-
thats what got me started on snakes really. handling the giants before i really knew what i was doing. as of now i'm still learning, but some-day. then again i do have a fairly large species, my red tail boa is gettin' to be a beast.

80 bucks for an adult? Yeah that's a pretty decent price. And here I am thinking of how I can talk the person at the exotic pet place into lowering the 80 dollar price tag on one of their 4 month old BPs. I'm shy though, so I know I'll probably end up paying the full 80. I really dont mind though, aslong as they can give me some sort of 7 day guarantee or something. And for that price, the BP's better be captive bred and born. :(
-
I bought a yearling (do they call them that?) for $25 + shipping from a breeder, total of about $62...granted, it was a great deal, but you can still find deals like that if you look.
-
I bought one for 50 and one for 20 both approx. 5 months. The sub adults there are 60.00 and they don't have any true adults but the closest they have is for 80. I fed all four of mine immediatly when I got home. Mine are eating great on live.

.
You'll want to get off the live kick as soon as you can - I know its fascinating and very National Geographic to watch but there's insane room for injury - try switching to pre-killed and possibly even transitioning to frozen-thawed - too much room for stuff to go wrong. Congrats on your new family members and welcome to the site as well!

gonna see it ?
Yeah I bought three frozen the other day since my 5 month old Calista is beginning to shed. I'll feed her in the next day or two and see how it goes. The live pups I'm feeding them don't have any teeth so they can't hurt my babys right now, but I am going to try f/t tomorrow , any advice on inticing her with the f/t?
-
well it depends on the snake. some will take the mouse right off the tongs and others you have to put the mouse in there and move it around like it is alive, and some snakes just need to be left alone with the mouse and they will take it on thier own. im not expertat feeding f/t im still trying to switch but thats the information ive got from on here.
-
That's pretty much what I figured.
Calista is a veracious eater so she probably won't be to hard to convince, my other baby is a little more timid, I'll just have to try and see. If I can't get it to work I might just break the jaws of anything that could possibly harm them before feeding.
-
ouch, would that kill them or just disable them from biting, not to be mean but it sounds kinda cruel. but i dont know how u do it, i may be wrong
-
Adult feeding schedule.
No you're right it would be cruel, not very nice.
-
my 10 month old ball at the time was 190.00 but i was able to get him for 150.00, they are really expensive up here in canada.
And first time herp, if 80$ is alot of money, money you dont havem mabey you should wait a while. Because im working now, and owning a BP and caring for it correctily can become a bit of an expence.
-
Yeah it is kinda expensive, but just wait till you bread and get some morphs, you can really make some money. Of course that is minus the electric bill, feeding, bedding, incubator, stress, worry . . .
but 15,000.00 for a caramel or snow makes it worth while.
-
Yeah I'm not trying to be mean but 80 dollars is nothing it cost me at least 100 to start and I continue to spend if my bp's need something that money never existed. I don't have a job but i still have money for my bp's because I love having them so much Christmas money for bps, birthday money for bps, money i make on the side is money for bp's ok I exaggerated a little but not that much the reason i can do it is because when i spend money on them it's like anybody else buying a big TV. What im saying is you have to be willing to not buy that game if it gets in the way of something you need to get for your snake luckily i don't pay heat or electric and my dad helps buy mice.
-
Yeah you must consider the future, it's a continuous investment, just make sure you have sufficient funds for your babys.
