Went to the petstore today and a friend of mine that works there had his new albino cornsnake hatchlings with him, over 30 of them. they were no bigger than your average fishing worm, and cute as a button. i think after today, my interest in corn snakes has re-risen :). Just wanted to share my experience, it was definitely a fun one.

Do i sense a new addition?;) I've always had good experiences with corn snakes, just never really had the desire to own one.

nah no new aditions for the time being. he's moving off to colorado tomorrow so the snakes will be sold there. not to mention it was his first breeding project, and he's a lot like me... so i doubt he'll be able to get rid of em all.

Corns sure are cute. I've had two, an okeetee and a snow. The snow died this time last year I think. I hadn't had it for 3 weeks. It first regurged, then died. I think the mouse had been kept on ceder or some crap like that.

Anyone, corns are a lot of fun to keep, uber hardy. I've never really gotten a rise out of keeping them tho, unlike keeping bp's. They're too wild during handling.

Wanna see a sexy corn morph tho? Check out some candy canes, mmmm.

Wild during handling?? That is not my experience! Our Corn is one of the easiest snakes I have ever handled! But to each his own I guess. Maybe I would think BPs too lazy.. I don“t know

I love albino corn snakes! But they are not wild during handling and I'm almost absolutely sure of that.

Mine was EXTREMELY wild at first, but after just a few days it was unbelievably better and the more i have it out the calmer it gets. I dont think it had really been handled at all when i got it. Ive only had it a few weeks, but it isnt bad at all to handle now. It is active, but not wild. Compared to the pythons ive handled it is very active, but they just kinda lay there:P

Corns can be wild, but that's why they are so special to me I can pretend to be Jeff Corwin trying to catch a hot! :P

OHhhhh baby! Keep me in mind for a lavender, Joe! Saaah-weeeeeet!

Or any creamsicles you want to get rid of......and a candy cane! :lmao: A CC is what Robin REALLY wanted, but no one had any around here at the time....but Kishnah is weeeeell loved (and getting bigger every day!!! in her new home) and Flurry will be treasured too.

Corns are fast! and need some extra handling, but they're not wild...no wilder than any other baby who sees ppl as the biiiiig, badpredator that's going to eat 'em.

    :)

I might have the lavenders by next month as the guy says they are due to hatch in about 2 weeks. As far as the creamsickles i might have them next spring.I tried the candy canes about 2yrs back and they were eating great and then just died :irkd: .Tell Robin i will give her the first dibbs rights on a creamsickle if i produce any next season to go with FROSTY(:neener: :devilish: :devilish: ) to produce her own snowsickles;) .Yes i know i am picking on your teenager:partyon:

HAHA i didnt realize it was such an old post. I had been looking through all the old posts trying to find some info on how big corns needed to be to breed, and wasnt paying attention to the dates :P Looks like it really kicked the thread back off though, judging by how many new posts there are.

Corn snakes are capable at breeding at 18 months old(mine did last year). Its best for them to be at least 2yrs and about 3ft or so long, the longer the female is the better. In order to breed they have to be well fed and prepared for breeding time. Some cool them down before breeding, myself i do not.I hope this helps:)

Thanks for the input. One more thing though, what weight would you say to aim for in the female. I've read alot about other snakes and lizards needing to be certian weights as somewhat of a sign of being fed/healthy enough.

To tell you the truth thats the only thing i never have done is weigh any of my corn snake lol.I usually go by over all looks. My females are both around just under 3yrs old and they eat frozen thawed rat fuzzies every 7 to 10 days and absorb just about everything(very little poo).I feed them year round until they are gravid and they decide to stop eating.By me doing this i think that why one female(silver queen) double clutched and my snow female triple clutched this year. And all this was from one breeding get together with my male ghost:cool: .My advice to you is get your snakes as healthy as you can then decide in the spring if they are ready to breed or not;) .If you have any other questions let me know.

My cornsnake isn't wild at all. He moves all of the time from hand to hand when I hold him, but he has never been aggressive or unhandlable. He is 2 1/2 months old and when I checked on him tonight found out that he is in blue. This will be his 3rd shed. I adore him and am sorry I waited as long as I did to get one.
