Enchi Male? Very Little Reduced Patterning...
I got this guy on Sunday. I had planned to get a BP, but wasn't very knowledgeable about different morphs. I just liked my guy and didn't even know what an enchi was. The guy selling him had to explained the traits, telling me about the yellow/golden thing but not about the reduced pattern thing... possibly because this guy doesn't seem to have much of a reduced pattern or possibly just because he was busy. My guy seems patterned pretty normally to me, with a lot of spots up top. I paid $125 for him, just because I liked him, especially his nice, chocolatey blushing on the spine, but I'm not so sure he'd be a great guy to breed or whatever if I did that in the future. I mean, is he an okay example of the enchi morph? Having just started with BP, there are several morphs I have trouble discerning apart, and since I don't have a normal to put him side to side with, I have a hard time telling with this dude. He looks more yellow/golden in natural light, but in a cage he looks much browner. Obviously color is hard to catch in images, but pictures are below! Thanks for your help. :)

Maybe it's me but I'm not seeing enchi at all? :confusd:
Congrats on him though!

Yeah, that's what I was feeling once I got home and researched it. Especially since I contacted the breeder who sold him to me to find out his hatch date and they replied they would have to ask because he was born at their friend's house... So I'm not certain the people who sold him to be could verify who is mum and dad were. Not that I don't think he's lovely... I'm just not 100% sure he's enchi.

Not an enchi, I'm seeing only a normal.

they're not the best pics. I'm not jumping in saying that it's not an enchi. bad pics but it could be an low grade enchi.

I don't see Enchi in that snake. Enchi's have a golden color, and a reduced, banded pattern. Like this-

Not all enchis are reduced, just the ones that most people prefer. Get another 100 grams on him and take new pictures in natural light (outdoors), and ask again. Brand new enchi hatchlings can be pretty "ugly", IMO.

I am going against the grain and saying it looks enchi to my eyes. The first two pics show it, the third pic is crapola.
Either way, not the best looking enchi I have seen.
-
the second pic makes me say enchi.
like said, not reduced like most people like and are use to seeing but it is not a normal for sure.

Here is a bad picture of mine, memo to take more photos of him LOL

I've hatched out busy enchis before, they look similar to that. so I'd say that's an enchi.

Okay, thanks guys. I am waiting until he settles down more to handle him, but I will take more pictures when he's been in his tank a week or so (he was pretty stressed the last couple of days and just calmed down so I don't want to disturb him). The nice people who sold him to me contacted the guy who actually bred him, so I'll chat with him about it, too. It's not really a huge deal--I like him either way, it's just if he is normal then I paid way too much when the going rate for $30 for a normal at the reptile show. It's very possible that he is either. I'll revive the thread in a week or so to try and get some more pics in good, natural lighting. :)

bluh it's too early for this

Yeah, but a male enchi for $125? I dunno, that's a little low for enchi anything isn't it?

Re: Enchi Male? Very Little Reduced Patterning...
I agree with Anna put some weight on him and come back in a month or two with some outdoor pics. I think he is a low quality enchi as well.

I have seen some single gene males for $175 shipped on KS so $125 sounds about right to me.

Male enchis were in this price range at the Columbia Repticon this past weekend. A lot of breeders seem to be trying to clear rack space for 2013s that are hatching.

Okay, so according to the breeder his mom was a pastel and his dad was an enchi. Apparently he just has a very busy pattern and should lighten up with age. I got pictures of his enchi father and pastel enchi half sister. Hopefully when he gains a little weight he'll get a bit more colorful too! :)

nope, todays market... it's a race to the bottom on pricing

Dad looks 100% normal to me.....I dunno yours looks like he could be a low grade enchi but after seeing that photo of the sire, I dunno.....

Those pictures are awful. I stand by my statement to grow him a little and ask again later.
-
I think it is a low quality enchi based on the first two pictures...they do show on the back half of his body some of the reduced pattern a little bit that enchi's tend to have (granted that normals can be that exact same way) but I'm also seeing some of the orange coloring in the bottom half of his sides that enchi does...based on those two things together I think he's most likely an enchi. Seeing how he looks as he grows a little and how much of that orange color stays should help tell you if he's an enchi or a normal with some reduced pattern on parts of him.
-
I see plenty of Enchi's here that look like him. It's one reason I'm still shopping for mine. Yes he's an Enchi. I have no doubt. He's got the right coloring and the right blushing to be one.
That being said. My ideal Enchi has the deep golden orange coloring, the reddish brown blushing like yours does, BUT my ideal Enchi, busy pattern or reduced, must have as many bands across the back as possible. To me, that just says ENCHI! This one is more... eh it's an enchi.
But it is an Enchi, I am sure of that.

Looks like an enchi to me. Not the best example though.
-
I think it s an enchi too
-
they do get lighter with a few sheds if it's an enchi, but the banding is what makes enchi, enchi.
