Leaving ball pythons for another python
So I've been thinking of switching from ball pythons to blood pythons. What do yall think? I will probably keep a few balls and breed just pieds, ivorys, and lucys. What do y'all think?

Have you ever owned a blood? I'd pick one up and see if I really liked it long-term, first, before completely switching gears. Just my take.

I'm thinking of changing my favorite ice cream flavor to strawberry. Do you think this is a good idea?

If you don't already own one you may not want to make a big jump before you own one for awhile.

I love my bloods and do enjoy them more than balls. That said they require much more space, are huge compared to a ball, and are not as easy going and non confrontational as a ball. They can get an attitude and when they throw their weight around it will surprise you how strong they are. Mine are all well behaved and my big girl is a puppy but even she likes to disagree when its time to go back in her home at times and wrangling a big blood is much more difficult than ever handling a ball.

I say start small and get one before you sell off your balls and equipment. I would also suggest finding a large adult to hold and handle a bit so you can get an idea of what you are going to end up with.

KMG is absolutely right. They are much more like a large Boa weight and strength wise even though they aren't that much longer than a Ball. My big females were stronger than the Burms I had that were twice their length! Like she said, if you can find someone with an adult to let you handle, that would be ideal. They are wonderful, unique snakes. But they aren't for everybody.

Depends. What's your current favorite flavor?

I appreciate the SERIOUS input that was given. Also, I have held them and know that they are a different snake to deal with. I thought that this was called there friendliest site but guess you can't ask for a little advice anymore.

Relax a little, no one was mean to you and no one blasted you. You asked for advice on something that is simply determined by YOUR preference. You didn't give any indication of whether you had previous experience with bloods, or why you wanted to change, or how far you want to go with them. John's ice cream statement left some of the exact same contextual questions unanswered that you did, if you think about it.

I thought my sarcasm via text detector was bad...
Bloods are beautiful animals whose temperments aren't that difficult to deal with once you are familar with them. I'm so biased tho. [= why do u need to switch species completely? Keep some of each.

    Basically this. ^^^

Own a blood for a while. I just got one pretty recently. She's been awesome. She's 3000g Today we had a fight tho lol. I put her on the couch to clean her bin. She must've liked it there cause she wouldn't let me scoop her back up. Lol. Hissing, striking and puffing up at me. I had to throw a blanket on her so I could scoop her up. Then when she went in the bin, she turned back and struck again, I felt the wind of her face on my arm. Lol. Silly bloods. Keep you on your toes.

My favourite description of them is; they are like stumpy Burms. Lol. All the power in the world and a bit of attitude, just for fun lol.

My short tails are awesome, however they can be a bit temperamental. It all depends on the snake itself, I would check out some of the more blood specific forums before completely changing your plans.

I kept em for a couple years and decided they weren't for me. If I was you I'd buy one and keep it for at least a year before really deciding to give up on balls. They're cool snakes, but it took me a while to figure out they're not my thing
