Reptiles Magazine
So I posted awhile back looking to see if anybody had a copy of the December 2008 issue that they didn't want, and I've found some on ebay, but I think paying $7+ for a issue is a bit of a rip off because you can get a two year subscription for under $30 which is $1.25 an issue. So hopefully I find one cheaper, something around $3-5. I know it's only a two dollar difference but it's the point that people want to try to milk out as much money as they can, lol.
So anyways, who all subscribes to the magazine? I'm just curious who else reads them and all. The August issue which I have no idea why I got in the middle of June has a very heart warming story about a girl saving a Boa. That story honestly brought tears to my eyes, and not much can do that. I'm willing to take a picture of it and post it so people can read it, because I just want everybody to see this story. I just want to make sure that I won't get in trouble for doing it first since technically I do own the magazine. So can a mod or admin chip in with that? Thanks.

Reptiles Magazine
I was subscribed, my subscription probably ran out though. Don't have as far back as 2008, sorry.
EDIT: yea you should be allowed to post a pic as long as you add a disclaimer or reference likes "taken from reptiles magazine august 2013 issue". It shouldn't be a problem since you aren't claiming it as your own. :)

Re: Reptiles Magazine
Hi,
From my understanding owning the magazine is different from owning the copywrite on the material it contains so you wouldn't ( legally ) be allowed to share it.

Dr. Del is right about copyrights. However, a full citation of the source when an article/quotation is used in a research or literary paper prevents it from being plagiarism. I would think the same rules apply as long as you cite the reference completely when you post. But, it's the mods' call.

Reptiles Magazine
I don't see what the big deal would be as long as he cited it...

$7 is about what you would pay for the mag in the store.

Honestly, the reptile magazine quality has gone down since I had it years ago. Way too many ads and I'm sorry but I don't want to read about amphibians in a reptile magazine.

Re: Reptiles Magazine
I've cites many research peer review journal articles here. Haven't had a mod say anything to me yet. But I quoted everything and used MLA formatted citations. So the kind written in formal papers.
For a magazine,
Last name, First name. "Article Title." Magazine Title. Date Month Year Published: Page(s). Print.

My sub just ran out, and I only started in 2010. I just got for the pictures, tbh. The writing was sub-par and there wasn't enough about the hobby itself to warrant continuing. I'd like if they really did month to month issues (like getting august in June...) so that we could have a good spread about USARK, PIJAC, or whatever that other one is. But, it seems to be mostly a money draw on advertising for them now; which is unfortunate.

I haven't been pleased with the issue lately, as I'm not fond of field herping adventures, nor do I want to own the latest newt or frog, and turtles aren't reptiles to my mind. I suppose I'd like it more if the community and legislation involved was a topic of discussion. And hey, they take article request!

I agree. I stopped subscribing a few years back because of that. I agree about the frogs and newts and all that, because I don't own them and nor will I ever will. I could honestly do without all the lizards and stuff as well, but they're reptiles. They honestly just need to make a snake only magazine, I think it would give them more business. Because I don't deal with anything except for snakes, I really don't read more then half of the magazine.

You can buy a digital PDF copy of it from their website. The price was 4.99. I'm not sure if you are set on having a physical copy or not but thought I would mention it. Here is the link. Click where it says buy digital back issues and the December 08 issue is listed.

Yea when I called about getting a back issue they told me about digital only. Nothing against digital only, but I'd rather have a paper copy so I can read it on the go and such.

Yeah I totally understand that. Have you thought about checking used book stores? We have a few here that also sell old copies of magazines. I've found Reptiles and things such as BirdTalk etc in a few of them.

No I haven't thought about that but I will do that, thanks.

On the few car forums I'm on, people post scanned magazine articles on a daily basis. So far I've never heard of any problems from it...

Yea, I don't believe there is a problem with it as long as the person writing and the magazine are credited. I just mainly wanted to make sure it was okay with one of the mods or admins before I did it and got in trouble for it.

Re: Reptiles Magazine
Hi,
Sorry I meant to come back to this.
With proper credit etc I think it might be ok - but if the magazine contacted us it would obviously be removed.
The problem could come from the fact we have adverts on this site ( and thus commercial aspects ) whereas scientific papers and the like do not.
I'm genuinely not sure how much this limits things though. :(

That's fine and I understand. What I'll do is I'll post it and give it the appropriate credits and what not and if for some reason you do have to remove it then I understand.
