Another one of my fun questions for you all :)

Ok was just wondering when your babies hatch and shed out and all that good stuff and you sex them and house them in there own tub's what is your substrate of choice and why??

I use paper towels for the first month. After that it's the Washington Post. :) Simple, clean, abundant, cheap...and it gives them something to read while they're chilling in their tubs.

I've never bred snakes but from what I've read from others it would be safe to say that whatever the breeder used for their adults, they used for their hatchlings as well. Aspen, cypress, newspaper, paper towels, etc.

Personally I use aspen for all my snakes. If I were to breed, I'd use aspen or paper towels. Aspen because it's what I'm accustomed to, paper towels cause it's easy and I've used it before for a new/young snake.

Aspen: It allows them to burrow and feel more secure, it oftens help the most difficult one (those that are reluctant to get eat their first meal) to get started.

Paper towel for a month or so, and then Aspen. :gj:

Everyone starts out on paper towels. Babies that are very insecure get aspen. And everyone gets a little hide box.

I sex them as soon as their tails are out of the eggs.

I leave them in the incubator until they all shed. Once they shed they go into their own tubs with aspen bedding. I give them a snug hide with crumpled newspaper inside the hide and filling in the open space in the tub.
