Hey guys. I wanted to show off our water monitor. Her name is Xena, she's super sweet, and she's asleep in her water :b so I took a pic. I never knew monitors were so awesome.

Share pics of yours if you have one!

What type of setup you have for Xena?

She's cute. :) I just read up on their care...it made my head hurt. I love monitors, but I don't think I could give that much of a commitment.

Luckily I can enjoy her from time to time! lol
I work for a company that has her. I'm in love with her! haha
The first time I held her she climbed to the top of my head and posted.

They just keep her in that enclosure for now, it's aboutttt 4'feet wide

    Newspaper substrate. A+ great husbandry.

The company that owns her has no business owning her.

They need to give her a proper enclosure if they intend to keep her around. Monitors are very cool but they have needs and keeping her on newspaper just ain't it.

Yeah unfortunately she's my 'boss' so seeing as I have less animal experience than she does, I don't really stand a good chance telling her she needs to get a better enclosure. Especially seeing as how every time I try to strike up a professional convo she turns it into something I did wrong. EVERY TIME. lol
I could tell my "boss boss" eventually but I don't want to come off like I'm complaining or a know-it-all, so I'm trying to play it cool lol.
She seems happy though and I'm sure she gets fed accordingly. I'll try to bring it up in the future however.

Print off a care sheet and show it to her.

I wouldn't care if it's my boss or my bosses boss, but they have no business owning an animal if they can't properly care for it and meet its husbandry needs.

Yeah, I like to play it cool while I watch an animal suffer to poor husbandry and have it's life span drastically cut by horrible husbandry and sub-par caging.

I've told my bosses (multiples) when they are in the wrong and doing something to harm/shorten an animals life span. Guess what- I care more about the animal than if my boss gets offended over it. Fact is, as long as you present it in a decent way, she can't touch you, or that's retaliation. ;)

    How about you chill out.
Just because shes not "confrenational" like you may be.
DOES NOT make her a bad person.

How about you approuch the situation a little different...
"Hey, it may be none of my business but have you ever discussed the proper care for a water monitor before with your boss?"

    Instead of belittling her.

Being aggressive like that isn't going to solve anything. The OP has the right way of handling it. If you gradually ease into the topic you'll be more likely to be taken seriously and potentially improve care on other animals in the future. I agree that the boss is completely in the wrong here, but let's not bash the op and rather think of a good way to use proper social skills to solve the problem.

Ok...Please dont get me wrong here for I dont know a single thing about Water Monitors. Why cant they be on Paper? Will it effect their feet? Do they eat it and can be harmed? Just asking to understand myself. I've never owned one.

Fairly sure it's to do with humidity?
