New Addition: 0.1 '13 Boa Constrictor Longicauda (BCL)!
Wanted to share a new little girl I added to the family! I've always liked BCLs and knew eventually I'd like to add one so once I saw this little girl I knew I had to jump on her. She's a pure het anery BCL born on 3/17/13 from a gorgeous anery sire to a dark yet colorful normal longi female. I loved her busy pattern and her already gorgeous color: I can't wait to see her grow up and mature into her darker coloration!

She's a wee 63 grams and I hope to have a successful feeding in a couple days once she settles in. She was produced by Scott Barnes and I couldn't recommend him more: communication and packaging was great, was happy to send more pics and go over some longi keeping care and tips with me, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from again.

I'm debating between two names for her so I'll need to get Dustin's input when he gets home but here's a couple pics: can you get any cuter? And look at those head spots!

She's so silver, how about "Sterling" as a name?

Thanks guys! She's just the cutest little thing and very pretty!

I like Sterling (it sure fits her!) - I'll name her shortly, I hate leaving them nameless for too long :P

    Congrats.
I got one of these myself not long ago and really like the activity of these guys when out.
It is cool seeing others pick up this species, they do seem to be a great introductory boa. Atleast, from my newbie to boa perspective. BCO or BCM might have been a bit much as an introduction.

Wow! Very pretty. :agree: Sterling would be a great name.

Any major differences in size or care from a BCI/BCC? Or are the differences minor?

I started with Colombian BCIs and think they're wonderful boas to start out with: I fully recommend Hog Islands to those wanting to get into boas too. This little girl is awesome though :)

I don't know what a BCM is though.

These guys do better in slightly cooler temps too (as I keep all my other boas: the Hog, Colombians, and my Argentines) and Scott mentioned they can be a little sensitive to feeding when babies like BCCs (ie don't feed too large with them). Other than those their care seems very similar. They can max out around 6-7' but they aren't considered one of the "bigger" boas.

Nice pick up Angelica, Its always puzzled me why someone tagged these guys with anerythiristic..????? The Tumbes boa is a dark / melanistic type locale..Theres also a good bit of variation between specimens.. Unlike Bco which is more consistant and also as anerythristic as the long tails..That area of Peru has/had a lot of mining and early specimens were seen with deformities.. Myself and another suspected heavy metal poisioning.. Theres also a lot ( or was) of pattern anomaly's, Crazy patterns..A few Rare "blue" specimens were also there..I produced a few litters, some of which came out of Arizona from the Late Bill Girden and Marcia..Look forward to seeing how it colors up..:gj:

Thanks for the kind words! You've reminded me that I need to update my website: I've added a few new animals since and have taken a lot of new pics I haven't posted there yet.

A little update on Olive: since taking her first f/t with me after not eating for a month she's been striking off tongs every week no hesitation! It's very exciting :D Now that she's an established eater I hope to get some new photos of her!

She's stunning huh? Real cute too :) And hey, all snakes are addicting! I'm happy to help with any boa or other snake species questions when I can.

Here's some new pics of her from last night, I posted them in my photo thread but they're appropriate here too:
