Thanks for the welcome.
Judy, where in Va are you?
-
I'm in Springfield (near DC) but only for a few more weeks. We're moving to Alabama in July. :( :) :( :) (mixed feelings! )
-
Ewwww Springfield :). I grew up in Herndon... the traffic up there sucks!! Then again it's getting pretty rough down here too.
Going to Alabama is going to be quite the change.
-
Arlington/Falls Curch/Fairfax at points for me. I will NEVER miss the traffic.
-
Where in WV are you Smulkin? I went to school up at WVU for a couple of years and lived in Charlestown for a while.
-
Oh I know....I'm feeling very claustrophobic here in the DC area! I've gotten used to the traffic, but I still hate it. When I went house-hunting in AL last month, I felt weird driving around and not having to compete for my right to be in a lane! My only mixed feelings come from having to move again so soon (we only moved here last summer!) and for leaving behind a really great church that we've become involved in. Other than that, I'm very much looking forward to living down south!
-
Next town down I-79 Storm - Fairmont - been here aver a decade - never lived anywhere else more than a few years - I am officially retired from big cities now - burnt out.
-
I know what Judy means about northern virginia....it really should be a seperate country up there. Theres just too many people up there in competition for the same space. I'm originally from richmond, went to GMU in fairfax for a couple years, and decided I couldn't take it anymore. I transferred to VCU last semester, and even though I live in the city, its much easier to get around than in the SUBURBS of DC. There is a positive relationship between lower latitudes and the coolness of a place. The weather in nova sucks too to boot.
-
I think is just the fact that those states are small. Here in Texas the only city that has really bad traffic issues is Houston. But in Texas everthing is spread out. The distance between El Paso to Beaumont is longer then the distance between Beaumont and Chicago.
-
Well, I'm from Dallas and still visit there frequently. I think Dallas traffic is at least as bad as Houston's and getting worse. But I DO miss the wide spread of Texas!!! San Antonio was wonderful because you get all the convenience of a big city without so much of the crowding.
-
Smulkin, i once spent a couple days in Fairmont after a nice little run in with a cop, a one way street, and a little place up there that burned down a few years ago called the Varsity Club :P That was a long time ago though... back in 1989.
I do not miss NOVA at all... even though this area has gotten pretty rough the last couple of years with all the additional military they have been pulling in. It is amazing how a couple of hours south makes such a huge difference in the people..... the people are totally different here.
-
lol... VA traffic. good god. all i can say. especially in the northern area.
-
Traffic .. here .. only if you get behind a guy with a little orange triangle on the back of his tractor.
-
Wait a second .... this isn't about whistling at all..... lol! Welcome to the site! Good advice.
-
I whistle while I sit in traffic up in good ole NoVa. :)
-
Zander
Try atlanta traffic. I'd take being back in NOVA any day. :)
-
Sexed
Lol, basically two pages of regional talk. Nice. Oh well, seems we answered his question anyway. :)
On the topic of traffic....that's one advantage to being in a small unknown town like Kingsville Ontario. Hardly any traffic in town. Once you get close to the cities like Windsor and Toronto though.....ugh. I'd never live in a city unless I really had to.
-
Yeah one of the better drailments I've seen in a while - though once the topic's been adressed no harm no foul.
-
Stormyva, I remember the Varsity Club. Smulkin wasn't here in '89, but I've had the privilege of living in Fairmont all my life. So you spent a couple days in our local jail, huh? How did you find it? I've had a few friends who spent a night or 30 in there.
-
We did kind of sway the topic away didnt we.... one of those mods ought to split the thread and move this section over to the general forum.
Oh well....
Lets just say I have been very well behaved since I learned that lesson :D I was one of those typical stupid college students celebrating after finishing mid terms and went out to party. The designated driver was a female that was "dieting" and hadn't eaten anything for two and a half days and ended up drinking three Tequila Sunrises. When it came time to head home I was the least drunk of the bunch and it was my truck, so guess who got to drive :O Needless to say, I learned my lesson VERY well!

Okie Dokie :D

I hate sitting in traffic, thank god and Mr. Jobs for my iPod and the over 5 GB of MP3's. Kinda makes it less painful when you can listen to all your favorite music and belt out a tune.
And no i don't care if I look silly singing in my car, it's better than the guy next to me picking his nose.
-
I commute about 1 and a half to two hours each way to work this summer - though on a saturday the drive is about fifteen to twenty minutes (that's what you get for living around Chicago) But I LOVE Chicago and would never change a thing - the only way I'm moving is if I have to for money or jobs and then I would move to either Seattle, Boston, New York, San Diego, or Pittsburg... though I may have to move to Nashville for a while for my live broadcasting company... :)
-
Ok Jonah how in the heck did Pittsburg get in w/ the other cities???
Won't have to worry about traffic there.

I finally decided a few years ago not to be embarassed when ppl see me singing in the car. It's a very freeing feeling, and I'm not nearly as annoying as those guys with the pumped-up bass that make the whole road shake.

You just gotta roll down the windows and let them enjoy the song with you, right? :)
-
Hee hee. If the weather and song justify it, absolutely. ;)
