    Het. orange ghost
Is there a way to tell if a snake is het. orange ghost? I don't think so but wondering if there may be signs. supposedly a guy on CL has a female almost breeding size for $60.

I've read that some people can pick them out easily, but personally I don't know of any legit signs. I've heard that some het hypos will shed clear like regular hypos but my 100% het girl has a patterned shed. She does appear lighter than other normals though. Do you have pics of the CL female?

Yes there is and it's by buying from a REPUTABLE breeder :gj:

The last place I would be shopping for hets is CL.

thanks Deborah I know the guy actually. He has worked at the reptile shop down the road from me and I talk to him all the time for the past 10 years. Knows me knows all the snakes I have. I'd hope he wouldn't do that to me.

I would not trust that snake to be het ghost. However, if the snake is actually female, $60 for a near breeding size normal is not a bad price at all. You can always throw a visual ghost to her and see if you get ghost babies. If not, you've made yourself some het ghosts.

Ya the only reason I'm considering is because he said female for $60. So what's the quickest way I can tell if she's female? I have popped small snakes but not sure about bigger snakes. A guy at another pet shop down the road said you cant pop a big snake but I've read you can.

You can pop them, but it's not as reliable. Males especially are good at holding themselves in. You're better off probing an adult snake. If you know somebody who can probe for you, then great if not, there's a great video on here about probing and you can buy probe kits for not a ton of money on places like reptilebasics.com

I would probe an adult. I can pop babies pretty easily, but not adults.

Ya that's what I figured. I've never really done it on adults and kinda afraid to hurt them because I read you have to push harder and I already feel like I'm hurting the smaller ones.

    Het. orange ghost
I have a het og and I find that she is quite orange in color mostly especially in sunlight and the top of her head tends to have an off color http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/22/enyjede5.jpg but this is my het orange ghost female to help give you an idea of what to look for

    Het. orange ghost
Picture needs to be better but the patterns look similar to mine so I would think the chances are pretty good it's a het og

    Het. orange ghost
I wouldn't buy a het off an unknown person.

Some people claim that they can tell, but I have doubts. They don't exactly have "markers" like pieds do, and even then, markers aren't 100%.

I'm going with the simple fact its almost a breedable female for $60.

She could be het but you can't tell from that photo. Some ghost hets show some leakage of the gene and some don't. I have 0.4 young 66% het OG's here, all of which show varying degrees of orange on their heads; I sold the one that didn't as a pet. One of them shed today and when I checked the shed skin was patterless, so I am pretty sure that girl is a het. Bottiom line is that you can spot the obvious ones but certainly not all of them. The female out of my breeding het pair does show the gene, she is light coloured and has some orange on her head and body; the male is much darker and doesn't show orange (you would never pick him out as a het) but both are 100% het, as evidenced bu the two visuals that I have hatched from them.

Thanks I appreciate it. She is definitely a lot lighter than the other 2 normal females I have in the collection.

    Re: Het. orange ghost
yep; 2 ways: first buy from someone who knows what they're selling, and second, breed it to an orange ghost. You'll likely hit at least one. Not what you meant I know, but sorry that's it for het recessive morphs
