driftwood cleaning?

I went to the beach for a couple days and found some driftwood that would make a nice edition to my bp tanks. Any idea on how to treat them so I can put them in with my bps without my bps catching a parasite?

3skulls will be able to help you more... But, i'd say soaking in a diluted bleach solution, then soaking in water, then baking would be sufficient.

Bake it! At 350 for about 10 minutes. Bleach waters good too, and boiling for a bit does too. All three together work well.

I have boiled drift wood as well as,bleached it in the past. Both methods have worked very well for me. I lean more toward boiling the wood,as it is chemical free which is a good thing. As you will not have to deal with a bleached odor on the wood.

Here is how I treat the driftwood I use.

Pressure wash it really well, and make sure you get all the cracks.
I then spray it with a diluted bleach solution, and let it sit in the sun for a few hours.
Then I will rinse off again.
I will then start the drying process, either by baking, letting it set outside in direct sunlight as long as possible. I have even set pieces on our a/c unit while the fan was running, you would be surprised how well that worked.

Most pieces are to big to boil. Lol. Here's a picking of what I got.

Nice! I love driftwood. I went a bit overkill on mine, I soaked it in a bleach solution for a day, them soaked it in fresh water for two days after, changing out the water every 8ish hours so the bleach could leach out.

The first step most missed a stiff brush and soap get it as clean as you can.

Soak in bleach 1 part to 10 parts at 25ºC for 45 min - one hour.

Rinse well and soak in detergent (not soap) mixed with hot water at least 15 min.

Rinse well.

Allow to dry in open (not behind a window) sun. Bleach is broken down in sunlight fairly quickly.

Update on the driftwood. I got it all soaked, scrubed, bleached, and baked. Here is the finished project.

All three bps are about to shed so when they are done I'll get some pics of them climbing. Lol
