Sorry; hopefully I didn't go too far. When people in veterinary medicine speak poorly of their (our) own field it bugs me.

I'm not referring to anything in particular (much), guys, just a general atmosphere I'm getting, that I haven't before. People being snarky, opinionated, in in other's face's is nothing new around here, but it just seems like there's so much of it these past couple days.
Annnd, I just got my FIRST negative feedback, for expressing an opinion of my own! Seriously, YOU'RE allowed to be ridiculously rude to follow member, but I'm not allowed to back her up, and express my opinion? Yeah, something really messed up right there. :colbert:

lol, not at all, I was, however, referring to everyone ELSE around you. I would probably do the same if I had the cred to back it up.

This is everyday!Very few people on here respect the term " if you dont have anything nice to say". They always have to correct them or throw it in their face. There is a lot of favoritism in this forum and I hate it. Some people can post a great thread and not get one response. While other more "popular" member's post a picture of a cup of coffee (just an example) or something ! And BAM!
    "Thanks for sharing "
    "Woah! That's a sick mug!"
All this feedback for something so stupid.

I don't comment ALLL the time but I do feel the need to congratulate people or , give my condolences, so on and so forth. Yes, there are a lot of beginners, but it doesn't mean that as people join you getting higher up in the totem pole. That's the kind of attitude a lot of users have on here. (Not an overall majority but a good handful). It pretty much boils down to who has the most time to be on this forum and post. I work 2 jobs and run this ball python hobby. A good chunk of "popular" people on here have never even bred before ( which isn't a bad thing) but I don't see why they sit here for hours and hours giving advice if they have never had hands on experience. I'm sure it is much appreciated by others but.... Don't you have anything better to do? Like clean cages? Or scrub water bowls? There is always something to do. This is NOT directed toward everyone so please don't get those panties all bunched up.:)

Sorry guys just had to vent. :)

I just don't remember it being like this before. (I took a break for almost a year) There are a lot of really nice members on her, but they seem to be getting lost in a sea of grumpiness. *sigh*, I guess just like every sci-fi show will eventually turn into Star Trek, every forum will always descend into a grumpifest. I'm still sticking around, though, if only to be nice, lol.

If everyone believes the same thing, there'd be no reason for this site and no reason for new comers to ask questions. Want to be coddled, head on out the door. The sugar coating washes off when you log in.

Doesn't mean you can't be nice and at the very least, civil. I mean, seriously, you want people to ask questions, and be educated? Be a group of people that others want to approach.

Kodie..... that is exactly the crankiness she is talking about. You are ASSuming that she thinks that everyone should have the same opinion. Clearly, that is not the case.

There is a difference between sugar coating and being CONSIDERATE and KIND to your fellow reptile lovers. Don't use that as an excuse to perpetuate the bad attitudes we see on this site.

I hear you Anya. I see it all too often. Threads get out of control for various reasons... most of the time I don't understand it. I don't understand why we, who share in common a really cool hobby, feel the need to jump down each other's throats for differing opinions. Now don't get me wrong, I love a debate as long as people are being respectful of one another.

This whole attitude like "oh well I don't need to sugar coat anything because its the internet and I can say what I want", well sure you can say what you want, but you also need to think about how other people are going to read your posts. Simple changes can mean the difference between coming off as arrogant and rude or considerate but with a differing opinion.

I think people need to think their words through a little more before they click the "submit" button.

I wouldn't say I'm unapproachable. Or anyone I call friends here. People are critical, sure, but if anything I've learned in life is how to take criticism. People have too soft of skin and in the time I spend here I don't gear my response to spout warm and fuzzies.

Taking criticism is one thing. Learning how to give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is another. Always start with a positive, insert a negative, and hopefully end with a positive. There are ways to be nice without "sugar coating".

I agree. The members that are nice, are some of the most respected people. It's sad that its hard to find a genuine person nowadays.

I feel the same as Anya on this. Looking at my first threads I posted, I feel fortunate that members like @Kaorte took an interest and were kind to me in my ignorance. I look at some newbie posters (who have been misinformed by other sites and their "reptile friends") and see them TORN UP by some people. "You need to buy this"; "What did you do that for?"; "What do you think you're doing?"...

Ive been trying to preempt some of this bombastic criticism by keepin an eye out for new posters and trying to kindly direct them to the better way (just like y'all did for me)

There still are a lot of threads that come across as being negative/accusatory, but I don't think that will go away. We just have to do our part to keep the air positive as possible

And see, your opinion is moot when you act the way you say people shouldn't. Your opinion of me is fine, I'd go a step further and claim I'm a right arse. But, calling it like you see it is just in the same stead as the attitude you argue against.

I'll admit, you have a point.

However, grumpiness breeds grumpiness. That's just how it is. No one, no matter what they believe the proper way to act is, is always going to be patient and nice. Because even the nice ones get sick of the jerks, and become jerks themselves.

Everyone can do their part to just try to be...nice.

This is exactly how I try to structure my posts when debating on a topic.

I'm not perfect and probably have a rude or aggressive post(s) somewhere, but I try my best to be helpful and hopefully friendly sounding.

Lately, when I get annoyed or upset, I've learned just to leave and come back later with a clear head.

OP, I think it's an awesome idea, but have to agree that it probably wouldn't be the sensible thing- BUT- it really depends on the cat. For instance, I once had a wonderful, laid-back people-pleasing cat who rode around on people's shoulders, and this would have been right up his alley.

Also, congrats on your engagement! ^_^ Don't let the fuddie-duddies get to you. Last time I checked, this was a forum geared toward animal advice, and not relationship advice. So, yeah. They can take a hike. ;)

So, after contradicting yourself and giving relationship advice you give a kick in the teeth to everyone else who did not agree with you or the OP and THEN you go get all butthurt about it and wonder why?

I'm more of the opinion that too many of you expect too much to be allowed to play on the internet without parental supervision.

THAT'S why I suggested you may be interested in hiking yourself, you seem to need some alone time to ponder your double standard and tender tushy.

I've definitely noticed a much more aggressive tone to the posts lately. I don't know if it's a case of taking people's words out of contexts, or posts just not translating well over the Internet, but it seems like everyone's jumping down each others throats.

Alright, I was just going to go to your profile and hit 'ignore', but apparently that isn't an option.

How on Earth can what I said be construed as relationship advice?! I made the statement- the fact -that she is an adult. I then proceeded to answer her question, on topic, unlike you. Then I congratulated her, and yeah, tried to make her feel a little better, because, hey, NO ONE likes to be told that what in your not so humble opinion that they're doing is WRONG WRONG WRONG, especially when they didn't ask for it, or it had nothing to do with ANYTHING relevant! It was a thread on a freakin' cat forum, for goodness sake! What ever happened to, 'on topic'? The only reason this was ever an even brought up is because, unfortunately, she mentioned the cat's age and how long she has owned it.

But hey, you're a bigwig. I was just trying to be nice. I wasn't targeting anyone specifically, just the general funk of negativity, and just trying to be supportive of the OP's personal life choices but you were the one who decided you needed to 'punish' me.

You know what, kick me out, I really don't care. In fact, I have no idea why I'm getting so worked up, but this day has been hellish already, and you sir, are the icing on the proverbial cake.
