    Overexcited first time hoggy breeder!
I picked up a couple 2009 red het for albino hogs last August and am impatiently waiting for eggs! They bred on Memorial Day and since then my female has blown up to an incredible 680g! She looks so uncomfortable and unwieldy already and I assume we has a couple weeks left to go before laying. She got a lay box today and I'm super excited about hopefully raising some babies!

Any advice or suggestions would be highly appreciated!

    Here she is last week:

She looks like she is ready to blow! With a lay box in there, the only other advice I have is to fire up the incubator and make sure it is good and ready for all those eggs.

Thermostat gets here tomorrow and incubator should be ready to fly by Sunday! Her face is starting to look a bit ashy so I'm hoping her pre-lay shed is less than a week away. She's amazingly still aggressively eating 2 15g mice every other day and continuing to expand...I might need another hatchling rack....at least I hope I do!!

So I assume this goes without saying, but you'll be posting pics right? You know you want to show off those babies ;) It'll be a few years before our first hoggie clutch, so I need to live vicariously through y'all on here!!!

She's getting super fat 18 days after first visit with her boyfriend. He was with her for about 24 hours the first time and 7 days later for another 12 hours. I'm so nervous that I didn't leave him in there long enough for good fertility after reading some other folks stuff!! She's expanding rapidly and was 720g when I weighed her today! These next 10 days or so of waiting are going to be torture!!

Believe me if there are babies I will be taking and posting TONS of pictures!!!!!!!

    Sooo pretty.

It's funny, though- in that pic he looks like he's eating his tail, lol.

A couple other folks said that about eating his tail when I posted the pic in a FB group. He's a squirmy guy and that was the best picture I got :P

Here's Prissy again! Her belly is starting to get cloudy and she's kept herself pressed as close as she can get to the UTH for the last week. Right after this I disturbed her to see if she wanted the last two of the dozen mice I bought last weekend. She definitely wanted them. I don't know how she fits them in her being so round!

No eggs yet but i have found two slugs scattered in her tank. She's still eating and has me baffled - she is HUGE tho. I'm trying to ignore her as much as possible so I don't drive myself to insanity worrying...lol. Here's a crappy pic of her sliding into her lay box a couple days ago:

Long time no update but at last I'm getting to it eventually! I think I didn't leave the male in with her long enough this year and she wound up laying all slugs. It was disappointing but I'm just glad she finished the season healthy and happy and I get to try again next year. Thanks all for the support and advice!!

Aww I'm sorry to hear that. At least she didn't become egg bound or anything. Out of curiosity, how many slugs did she lay altogether?

That's how it goes sometimes, but hey at least she's healthy enough to try again next year.
