    fair price?
For a month now I’ve been on the look out for breeding size 100% het pied females, and have seen a wide range of prices. I wouldn’t be posting on here for a price check if I hadn’t really looking around, and am still a little confused. I’ve heard of het pieds going for cheap, but every breeding size female on kingsnake and fauna are in the multiple hundreds ($400-$800).
I was offered 2 sub adult size 100% het pied females (768g and 952g) from a guy that is down and out and needs the money. He’s local so it would be a pickup. They were the result of a pied x het pied clutch. Is $250 fair for the two?

Honestly if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Normals that size I would say go for maybe 65-75 a peice at that size. Add in that their het pied. Someone else with more experience may chime in thiugh

If they really are het pied and female i'd say that's a very good price.

$250 is fair if they are even only normals. Question is, do you trust them to be hets? "Cheap" hets are usually hatchlings. The $400-800 prices you're seeing are about right for breeder females.

The convenience of a ready-to-breed female adds a lot of value to any morph.

$250 is a great deal, as long as they are indeed females and 100% het pied. Even if the breeder is local, do your BOI homework if you haven't done business with them before.

I'm worried that it is too good to be true also. He picked them up from another local breeder (going to get the name so I can contact them). Supposedly it was the dams first time breeding, pied x het pied. Supposedly he "is in a rut" and "in a situation where he really needs the money".
Do you think that it is worth the risk? I've been in contact with him for several days and he seems like a nice guy, and has given all the information I've asked so far, but I know that doesn't mean much.

Personally I'd say it's a pretty good price but not a ridiculously low one. And remember that even though they have some size to them and 'might' be ready to breed in another year doesn't mean they actually will. I've had several females go 5-6 years before actually producing a clutch of eggs (and some that still haven't produced after an even longer period of time) This is why a 'PROVEN' breeder is worth so much more.

$250 isn't a bad deal on two females coming up on breeding size.
Proven females, that would be an "each" price and proven het pieds would be double that easily.
A lot of time and rats go into a breeding size female.
The short-cut on your male pied, I don't know what size your other girls are BUT I would get these two and either make your own KNOWN 100% hets with one and pair one of your other males with the other one.
Then again I would also pair the pied and the bee for hets too and make it worth the grow out time ;)

I have plans for my current breeding size females, so I'm thinking even if these girls turn out to be normal (I sure hope not..) then you're right, I'd have known 100% hets.
The only "normals" I've ever bought was my first boa and my first ball and have not considered any more since. In any case though, you can never have enough females.
Basically what I'm getting from everyone is, if they don't turn out to be hets I will lose some money, though not a huge amount. And resulting offspring would be hets. If they do turn out to be hets then I got a good deal.

keep in mind that even if they are REAL hets, they might take a couple seasons to prove out too

I don't mind, I got the patience =). I'm just hoping it won't take several clutches to really determine it. I will post pictures if/when I get them

Picked the two girls up today. It was pretty awful because we arranged a time to meet at her local safeway, she got there 10 minutes early and I got there 35 minutes LATE! I hate being late and always leave early because of that. Bad luck happened from the get go that made me so late, but the girl was very nice about it. I've been meeting and talking to a lot of rude and arrogant local snake keepers lately and it was a good change to meet someone nice and polite.

    Both probed female.

I used my cell phone for pictures, too lazy to break out the camera.

982g supposedly 100% het pied female. She would not stop moving, hard to get a clear picture.

They will certainly get nice and chubby in this household! Hoping both will breed for me this winter

Oh and a side note, the chances of them truly being 100% pied seem to have gone up. The previous owner told me a lot more info about the breeder she purchased from (she can't remember the last name) but the bigger girl is a 2010 and the smaller a 2011, from the same breeder. She met the breeder through a pet store that buys the breeders normals.
Not saying this is in anyway proof, but makes me a little more hopeful to have a little more information about them
