what do you use for bedding?
Right now i am using paper towels for my bedding but alot of my pythons knock over/spill their water daily. It can get pretty expensive to buy paper towels that much so i was wondering what you guys use..? I've heard that cypress mulch is ok.. does anyone have any experience with it? How often does it need replaced? They are in rack systems if it matters...
If you know of something better/cleaner.. i would appreciate any insight!
    Thanks!

What kind of bowls are you using? I was using small crocks and waters got spilt ALL the time. I switched to ceramic dog bowls and now they can't flip them over (or haven't flipped them yet).

As for your bedding question, I use printed newspaper (it's free). I buy cypress mulch from Lowes and put that in my tubs when snakes are shedding.

I know some people use the aspen bedding, but I don't know if I would really use it for my BP. I use it for snakes that like to burrow because it holds their tunnels well.

In my T8 I use corrugated wrap. In my glass enclosure, I use Eco-Earth to assist with humidity. All my water dishes are the same, similar to this: http://www.vitacost.com/ethical-pet-...crock-dog-dish

Paper towels, I hate wood bedding for ball pythons.
Heavy crocks and ceramic dog bowls work great.

Newspaper and the heavy ceramic dog dishes from Dollar Tree. The only way they get water all over is if they sit in the dish. I get newspaper for free.

paper towels here too, once in a while thy will get part of the towel in the water bowl and it will "wick" out all the water.

I use paper towels also. Are the shop paper towels any cheaper than regular?

I use paper towels, and I couldn't find ceramic dog bowls, and I didn't want to have to get them shipped from amazon, so I bought the large aquarium stones (they're about the size of a half dollar) and put them in the bottoms of my water dishes to make them heavier. People will probably tell me that's a bad idea, but it works for me.

I am using aspen and I use plastic $2 dog bowls. 5" across on top and 6" across on the bottom so they are hard to flip. I haven't had on flip yet.

I use to use cypress mulch in my large cage to help with humidity and I loved it but it is too much in my rack. The aspen I find is pretty affordable. I can do about 10 41qt tubs for $15 pack of aspen from the pet store. I only have a 6 tub rack and only3 bps so far though. I think If I had a snake room I would switch to unprinted news paper and maintain the humidity of the room to 50-60%.

Re: what do you use for bedding?
I use paper towels and heavy plastic crock bowels. The bowls are 8" wide so they literally can't be flipped over in the tub. They can just be emptied when a snake decides to soak. During shedding time I'll put a big ball of paper towels in the water bowl. When they soak up the water it increases the surface area of the water itself 2 or 3 fold. This allows more moisture into the air providing higher humidity.

I went for the more "naturalistic" enclosure, so am using cypress mulch. RBI has good stuff: http://www.reptilebasics.com/substrate/cypress-mulch/

Females get paper towels and males get aspen. Males go into female tubs for breeding, clean the males while they are "busy," and then Either Dave or myself usually holds the females while their paper towel is getting changed out.

We were having major annoyances with the bowls getting tipped or water being wicked out by the paper towel. Now we get cheap "Anchor" brand clear bowls (because we ran out of ceramic crocks and no way am I buying more) and put a deli cup into each.

Haven't had any actual spills, and it's MUCH harder for them to get the paper towel into the bowl.

I use paper towels and crocks for the smaller snakes, ceramic bowls for the bigger snakes. Haven't had a problem with bowl-tipping, but do occasionally have the corner of a paper towel get in the water and it ends up soaking everything, too...

Paper towels for the balls, with big hefty cheap plastic dog dishes I picked up at target. For the kingsnake in his display tank, eco earth. He makes the cutest tunnels EVER... and a second hand natural looking reptile dish. For the hognose, she just got swapped into a display tank and now is on kiln dried pine with a small second hand natural looking reptile dish.

If anyone is in a rack, though, they're on paper towels. Spot cleaning loose bedding is a pain, imo, and I miss stuff a lot easier because wood bedding masks the smell and the snakes usually end up burying their poo somehow. but I also don't want to stare at paper towels all day in a tank setup. :P

Newspaper but I love the look of substrate like Repti-bark. Because I don't need it for proper husbandry, though, I can't justify $25/bag with even just 9 snakes. Bowls are a mix of things. Aradia has a tip-proof cat bowl, Angelina has a ceramic ramekin, the snakes >500 grams have small, flat mason jars and the other two <1000 gram ones have tip-proof dog bowls from petco.
