Do your snakes ever "guard" their food?
I haven't been on in a while, but this is the second time my ball python has "guarded" her food. Maybe she isn't even guarding but she will go in strike pose and just wait for like hours in front of her food.. or sometimes just hover over it. She eventually eats it.. but I dont understand why it takes so long for her to decide when a good time to strike is. Shes never skipped a meal, but I notice this behavior sometimes and was wondering if it was normal?

Haven't seen it in a bp, but one of my boas will do this if I'm still in the room.

My lipstick sunglow bci is the only one I've seen do this. Probably because her tank is right next to my be and I usually feed right before going to bed.

I have 1 female pastel, she mostly eats f/t. On occassion I have a left over live rat, so I'll give it to her. She does exactly that, gets in position, then waits. sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for 30. Eventually she'l strike and eat it. Honestly, I have no idea why she does it... but you're not alone ;)

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/29/aty6u4us.jpg there's a rat under there, she doesn't want him but she also doesn't want him taken away. Any time my carpet refuses she'll hover above it on her perches makes removing the rat kinda hard, they never run to me.

My boa does it if I don't leave the room, but my BPs are little piggies when it comes to food. :P

Welppp, I ginxed it! She refused it completely.. for the first time ever. Ive had her about three months now, but shes about to shed so im positive thats why she doesnt want to eat. So since she doesn't want to eat I took her out and weighed her and she weighs 180g! I was so happy! At least I think I should be. Whats a normal monthly weight increase for a baby BP? She weighed 100g when I got her. She looks great to me.

Not exactly this possessive, but yes more or less.. same strike pose and everything.
