    NorCal people?
By which I mean people from Stockton to, oh, let's say Redding. I know there's a relatively lively herping community in the Bay Area, but what about a little further north?

We are just outside Sacramento and have traveled to a couple of meetings/events, but would love to meet and talk to more locals. Given the fact that the Sacramento reptile show in September just gets bigger and more crowded every year, there must be some folk close by, right? Not -all- of those people can be travelers. :)

We're in the process of setting up to do some dedicated reptile breeding. We've started small and are working with the corns we currently own, but we're hoping to expand into KSBs and BPs.

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? :)

I don't know anyone personally here who's a reptile person, but there are a significant number of people who come into the pet shop in town to get mice.

I breed the mice for the local pet shop, and sell between 200 and 400 assorted a month, so there must be some others around.

Fellow member here Anya is from the Bay Area...otherwise in not sure

I'm in the Bay. I went to the Herp World Expo in san jose which was pretty cool. Don't spend much time up in Sac.

Your talking Geiser, right? I bought mice for breeding from you!
Anyway, I am in Chico. We attend the CVHS meetings quite often! Have you been to any? Met Brian from Snakebytes(BHB) at the meeting last month! We are also good friends with Ron and Donna from Rons reptiles. We attend most of the more local shows with them. Have you met Sam and Naomi at GBU yet? How about Edgar Ortega? Good people to know if you want to find fellow herpers in your area!

I haven't gone to any meetings or anything, and some of your other statements are above my head (abbreviations and the like).

i am trying to network out a little in terms of resources that I can avail myself of though; definitely will be on the lookout for people at Gaiser (I'm there at least 2 times a week)

    YAY, people!

We were at the CVHS meeting when Brian from BHB was there. We made a crazy drive to get there, too, as we were at Maker's Faire that day and then went back for the Pleasanton expo the next day. Was a lot of fun. Not sure whether we'll be at the June meeting, but it is penciled in!

Hey Mephibosheth1, I am 99% sure I know who you are, I can see your face now! I'm sure if you saw me, you would know who I am!

CVHS: Central valley herp society, founder and president is Edgar Ortega, meetings are in Manteca (usually monthly) http://cvhs.freeforums.org/
GBU Enterprises: reptile/herp shop in Lodi owned by Sam and Naomi
Rons reptiles: Reptile Shop in Chico

    And to SarahP:
If you are around sacramento/manteca/stockton, you are kind of in the center of a HUGE herping community. Once you start finding all of the people around you, I think you will be amazed. It is such a cool area for that, we are willing to travel 3 hours each way to attend events with the crew from that area! I bet I would recognize you if you were at the CVHS meeting. You might even recognize me/us. My brother won the bolivian boa in the raffle!

I'm sure I saw you, yep, though I can't remember everyone's face from that night. It was our first time attending.

Nice to know we're not as isolated up here as we feel sometimes, though. :)

What kind of stuff do they discuss at the CVHS meetings?? Is it mainly current events in the herp world, or is it more of a Questions and Answers session for reptile problems that the members are having??

They have specialists or guest speakers talk about different Herps. For example, they had a venomous speaker come in, they had Brian Grundy come talk about Ball Python breeding. Last weekend they had Tom Crutchfield fly in from out of state to speak and hes the God Father of reptiles. Stuff like that.

They have raffles and live animal prizes too.

I'm in Saratoga now! I went to the CVHS meeting with Tom, and I usually go to the CCHS meetings in Seaside--It's much smaller, but still good people there. Anyone going to the Tracy show this weekend?

It left a lot to be desired. I'm looking forward to more shows put on by Reptile Realms--they are trying for 3 more next year (they did the Pleasanton one).

No way Expensive Hobby! I was talking to you for a bit...not going to lie, I was extremely jealous when you won that! Tom had a pair of D. melanurus he was selling at that time and I was going to opt for the cash value credit to his animals...how are the DRMBs doing?? You go to any other meetings? The most recent on on the evolution and ecology of reptiles was cool! Bill Hayes is speaking in April so I assume there will be a big turnout for that one!

Ya I will go to the next one. Went to the potluck one and that was the last one I went to. Been super busy on the weekends lol.

So I talked to you huh? We're you perhaps a tall feller with a hat and we went out to smoke per chance? You lived a few hours away? Or no? Lol.

An ya I was super excited to win! I literally had only won one other thing in my life and it was a jacket, when I was 8. Couldn't even believe it haha.

But ya he is doing great! Growing like a skinny little weed lol. Just bought him a female from Tom about 2 months ago. Can't wait till I can make some DRMB babies haha.

Wow! It's so nice to hear about all the herp events that have taken place in NorCal. The nice people also. I spent time in Seaside and Salinas by way of Ft. Ord back in the 70's. I am looking to relocate back to NorCal when wifey finishes school. Mainly looking in the Yuba City areas. :gj: See you guys and gals soon.

I'll chime in too. I live out in Oakley and work on the Peninsula (Burlingame area). Just went to the Tracy show and got a BRB!

I'd be interested in other local events as well.

Glad to see all the love for CVHS! they are a great club, I haven't been to any meetings for about 2 years since they moved venue but hopefully will make it out to some more in the future.
I'm on the far right, helping CVHS at a local show with educational stuff, fun times and a great group of people.

If he's still in business, there's a fantastic reptile vet in San Jose, he did surgery on one of my boas a long time ago.
