You may be seeing more this year. As far as I know, no one else is producing them yet.

They're very cool, especially that reverse albino :gj: Their pattern reminds me of motley boas

Really digging those inkdrops! Never seen anything like em! Thanks for sharing!

Hot snakes! Cal kings look pretty sweet naturally, but these morphs put wild types to shame. Are these guys similar to corns in care and temperament? I heard they like it a little hotter.

I keep both exactly the same. In my snake room it runs, in general, 78 to 84. None of the kings or corns have any supplemental heat. The kings probably could tolerate more than the corns, since I'm in the middle of CalKing territory, but they do fine without extremes. I cool all my adults in the winter, corns and kings, in my garage and they get down to the low 30s even upper 20s.
CalKings as babies are pissants. They pee and poop and hiss and rattle their tails like there's no tomorrow. Once they outgrow that, generally a little regular handling will take care of it-once they know you're not trying to eat them they mellow out- they're one of the best pet snakes I've ever dealt with. It's why I have so many.

Sounds like I need one! Thanks!

Not familiar with the ink drops, those are really neat!
-
Thanks for the cool pictures! I didn't know there were that many King morphs! Love the little blk and white inkdrop! Do they just eat multiple mice at a time like that? I am assuming F/T?
-
I knew I wanted to pick up a few more colubrids, but now the pressure is on! Those things look awesome.
-
They do eat multiple animals at a time, but I generally give them fresh killed since I raise mice. They'll all take f/t or live too. I've got 2 girls due to lay in the next few days that should produce inkdrops. If I get some this year I'll put up pictures for sure.

Not really a fan of colubrids, but the ink drops are pretty cool. Like someone said, they remind me of saddles on a boa.
How do the morphs work? Are "phases" proven morphs? And are they mostly recessive like corns?
-
I'm thinking it's a lot like ball pythons. Some of it is genetic, some of it is lineage. I will hopefully have a bunch of good eggs this year. I usually get 2 or 3, but this year I'm hoping for more. I don't know much more than that about them. I know the parents and grandparents for a couple of generations, but I do this for fun so I don't have any real records. I just pair whoever I'd like to see the offspring of and hope for the best until I get something like this. I've got over 20 years into these guys, but not with this pattern as a goal. I just like CalKings.

Cool. Best of luck. I hope what you hatch out exceeds your expectations!

Re: CalKing O Rama
Wow that ink drop is awesome and I like how purple the ruby eyed albino is.
I'm not sure I'll get more colubrids, but if I did that would be on my list. I'll look forward to seeing your future breeding endeavours.

Those are fantastic Wes, I've got a few cal kings myself and I really like them. Do you do any Florida kings? I've been seeing a few interesting morphs of those popping up lately.
-
I bred Florida Kings back before there were any morphs, but haven't worked with them in years. There are some really neat morphs out there though and they get a lot bigger than the CalKings.

Re: CalKing O Rama
Whoa...I've never seen a sapphire head mouse herder before, they're rare, aren't they?!

Sigh, one misplaced comma...
It should have said, "Sapphire, Head Mouse Herder."
And of course she's rare. She's a pit and there is a complete lack of blood, guts, mutilated bodies, chewed faces, you know, all that stuff that all pits do.
She hasn't figured out how to pick them up yet, but she's getting closer every cleaning day.

Re: CalKing O Rama
:O Inkdrops = hardcore secksi. Grats on something new and uber cool. :D :gj:
Not really a fan of the coastals but yours there is very nice looking. Good luck with the babies. :)
-
That big Coastal Female laid 19 eggs that were almost the size of golf balls 2 days ago. Kings are interesting that way. Some lay oblong eggs and some lay round eggs and some lay one way one time and the other the next. I have found though that most of the smaller ones lay the oblong ones at first and then rounder eggs as the snakes grow. It's really pretty neat.

I love love love kings, and those are smoking! I have to say I love the inkdrops too!

Re: CalKing O Rama
Looking great Wilomn! :gj: :gj:
Inkdrops and reverse stripe =
The black bellies are cool; didn't know that was possible.
-
OMG I NEEED ONE!!!!!!
I was wanting a Cal King for awhile, but just sort of let it lay. Now that I see those inkdrops, I know I need one. Not a want, a need! :D
When do you think some might be available/? :please: ;)
I'm in the middle of Cal King territory too. When I'm out at work (I'm a biologist) I periodically see them. Usually see the coastal phase (with varying color... some more brown than black, some more yellow than white), but once I saw a striped one.
-
They're just starting to shed now, so as soon as they eat a couple of times they'll be ready to go. If you're experienced and can't wait, shoot me an email and we can probably work something out sooner. The clutch from the sister of this clutches Mother is just finishing up their hatch and they're pretty neat too.

Man! I love that little Male Herringbone Aberrant! I've never seen one before.

I've produced those for years too, sometimes the whole snake is in that pattern. I really like my CalKings and they keep surprising me with new patterns.
-
Folks - treading close to advertising - please take to PM!
That said - I love that dalmation looking b/w one on the right - is that an inkdrop, or do you call it something else?
Awesome clutch Wes!
-
Bottom right in the group shot is an InkDrop. There was also a set of twins, InkDrops. Twinning is not very common, in my experience, with CalKings.
The other clutch just finished hatching out and there are a couple of really neat ones in there. One with a pattern I've never seen before.
-
Some very nice pictures there my friend.
How many do you own?

In The Day it was hundreds or more. Now a few dozen at a time. I've got about 40 more cooking and there should be some neat coastal stuff in those eggs.

Can we see the one with pattern you've never seen before?

I've got the picture, just haven't gotten time to post it up. It's still in the camera.
There is an interesting development though. I bred the original male to produce InkDrops to a female coastal he's never been bred to. In that clutch are at least 2 more of these never before, to my knowledge, seen morphs. I'm off to rodent land right now, but tonight I'll get pics up. They're pretty cool.

Stunning animals! Great thread.
