I was going to wait but I'm too excited!
My first set of twins is hatching!! This was a breeding partnership between myself and Matt Cossman of Reptile Revolt. The dam is my 10 year old dark normal "Thunder". The sire is Matt's Champagne. I will update with more pics when they all hatch.
6 eggs. 4 have pipped, and so far there are 3 Champagnes and 2 normals. The twins egg has a Champ and normal.
:D

Awesome. :D
And I think that is the smallest slug I have ever seen. :O
More pics when they come out please? :please:
I was going to wait but I'm too excited!
Yeah and to think I was disappointed when I saw the slug but I got 7 babies from a 6 egg clutch anyway!
I was going to wait but I'm too excited!
Congrats! So cool that you got twins!

isn't it pretty rare to have 2 different "morphs" or phenotypes hatch out as twins?
I was going to wait but I'm too excited!
but regardless, congrats!

It's more common than one would think. At its most basic, it's the product of two different fertilized follicles surrounded by one shell. I'm pretty sure there are other circumstances leading to the same event, but someone more experienced with genetics will have to chime in on that one.

I love twin egg pictures! Congrats! :)

The last two eggs pipped and have normals in them. I was hoping for more Champagnes but I'm still super excited about the twins. I finally saw both of their heads. They are small and cute! Ill post clutch pics when they venture out.

Not really, in fact it's a lot more common then identical twins which is what happens when the zygote splits into two embryos. What happens in this case is that two ova were shelled together in one egg.

In total.. 6 eggs, 7 babies.
1.3 normals
1.2 Champagne
The twins egg contained a male normal and a female Champ. The other 2 Champs are 1.1.
The other 3 normals are all females.
Re: I was going to wait but I'm too excited!
That's awesome! Congrats! Champs have to be one of the cutest morphs imo. Those twins are extra adorable.
Re: I was going to wait but I'm too excited!
That made me want a champagne, they look amazing as hatchlings!
The twins are so tiny and I love the picture of them snugglin'

Yeah I'm sure they'll be fine. They're too small for rats and unfortunately my ASFs are not producing very well. I'm waiting on a new colony to mature so ill probably need to get mouse fuzzies from the shop down the street for those two for a few feeds.
