She ate a 7 gram rat a few days ago. I got her 4/27. Is it normal for baby bloods the breath that heavily?

It doesn't look like her breathing is abnormal to me. Sometimes they breath like that when they're nervous. Also, i believe, bloods are also usually more vocal than balls, in general.

OK she does it every time I lift her hide. She does try to bite or even hiss. Just wanted to know if she's sick.

First of all, thanks for the vid. Refreshing to see vids. Much more to learn from than the usual run-of-the-mill photos of the latest trends/fads in colors/patterns.

Second, good on ya mate for the observation. I hear people talking about their "tame" Bloods in videos where the snake is hyperventilating. Nonsense. A quick example:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31TWEtBa9Fo

And we see pics from time to time of "tame" Bloods with their neck muscles cocked, ready to launch. A wannabe salesman at an expo earlier today tried to tell me that the Blood on his table, cocked like a crossbow, was tame. Yeah right buddy, and I got some swamp land in Florida for sale. Interested?

You've had her since 4/27? By 5/27 expect her to be more relaxed. She may do it for the few seconds immediately after removing her hide, but eventually mas tranquila. Try lifting her hide just a bit at a time, over the course of ~1min, don't fully expose her hastily.

Third, when you wrote "She does try to bite or even hiss" did you actually mean "She DOESN'T try to bite or even hiss"?

Lastly, you're UpState? Did you go to the Poughkeepsie expo today &/or the WhitePlains expo Sunday before last?

    Daybreaker
I can't see the vid since I don't have a FB but my larger SSTP female will breath heavier when I have her out (she's a nervous snake but getting better). Sometimes you can hear little whistles when she exhales too when being handled (no RI).

Yes I meant doesn't try to bite. No I didn't go to those shows I went to the hamburg pa show. I will be going to white planes in July. I'm in western NY near Rochester.

I don't have Facebook either Daybreaker. :gj: I thought I was the only one.

My young bloods will puff up and breathe heavy when they are first disturbed.

But they and my big girl are heavier breathers than most snakes. You can feel them exhale and they will often make noise while laying around with me. Bloods are very unique and you will find they are much more vocal than bp, even tame ones.

I'm sure its just usual blood behavior and you have nothing to worry about.
