    I iz maaaadd!!
Well, tonight was the night I always dread - time to clean evil Betty's tub! I have 30 pythons & colubrids, ranging in size from 3-6ft, and guess who scares me the most? This pretty little ~400g Miami Phase corn, who bites and whips me every chance she gets. I've had her for a few years now, but she just hasn't tamed up at all... so I pretty much leave her alone, except for the fun of cleaning day. Snapped a few pictures this time, since it's both scary and adorable when a widdle corn gets all aggressive-like. :D

    She sure is pretty, though...

After a bit of a struggle, safe & sound in her "holding cell!"

WOW! She is gorgeous! I hope my miami phase will turn out that pretty! Mine is only at 80g or so...so she's still got quite a bit of growing to do.

Betty says thanks for the compliments! I honestly haven't worked with her that much, since I do have 29 other snakes (plus 3 cats, a dog, and a full-time job) to worry about... and she's perfectly content just being a "look but don't touch" snake. I've tried finding her a new home, where she'd get more handling time, but for some odd reason nobody even wants her for free. :P

FYI: She was kind of a rescue snake, since my friend went to buy some tanks off Craigslist, and the seller threw in a few snakes too. He isn't into corns, so gave her to me... that was about 3 years ago, but unfortunately she still hasn't gotten used to me. Oh, and I don't even know for SURE she's a female, and know nothing of her genetics. So if she seems particularly attractive for a Miami, it's always possible there's something else going on there!

I see you live in my area! :D I'd be more than happy to try and socialize her a bit for you if you'd like :) I work with aggressive dogs for a living, I am 100% not bothered with being bitten by snakes, especially such a lovely girl as her <3

Hmmmm... that might be an idea. I'll send you a private message later!

P.S. I live in San Jose - but my mother lives in the East Bay, so we could always meet there (about halfway between us). ;)

Ha ha corns hate me for some reason i have yet to meet one that didnt wanna bite me or wasnt on the evil side. My buddy has one that won't kill it's rat crawlers before it it's it. He will just start swollowing a little rat butt end first no strike nothing.

All the corns I met were pretty nice.
I have held a few from PetSmart or PetCo that were evil little buggers.... but I solely blame the behavior on the stores, not the snakes.

I had a hatchling Okeetee Corn that didn't eat right, and passed away 3 months later..... unfortuately I think the person who sold the snake to me knew this and gave me no warning about it when I bought it off of him.
He didn't even tell me what kind of phase it was.... he just said "when it gets older, it'll look like a white man with the flu"
I should've backed out of the deal right then, but I loved the cuteness of the hatchlings too much.
And no refund... but that's ok though, because from that corn's death I got my beloved Triple Hybrids to replace it :P
sucks that it passed, I actually really liked the temperment and look of the snake. Really chill, and liked people.

The last picture looks like she's saying "You wanna go?". Very pretty though.

They can be a little jumpy, but Betty is the first MEAN one I've had! Maybe you just don't have a "good corn vibe" about you, LOL.

And yeah, they aren't so good at the whole constricting & killing thing... that's why I only feed mine f/t, since the few times I've fed live they (the snakes) got bitten or swallowed it alive. Ewwww. Over on another corn forum where I used to post, the colubrid-only keepers get all huffy about feeding live. They will actually accuse people of animal abuse, not loving their snakes, etc, just for offering live prey. All I can ever say in response is "keep a collection of BALL PYTHONS for a year, and then get back to me."

That is a gorgeous corn! Sometimes individual colubrids just have a nasty attitude forever. I had a Texas lucy that would take my face off if she could every time I opened her tub. I had a rat in the tongs ready to shove it in her face for her to bite whether she was hungry or not whenever I opened her tub on cleaning day lol.... And I have my 11 year old Texas lucy male that is sweet enough for kids to hold.

I have a corn that NEVER strikes and coils her food...she never has. I'm sure if I fed them live she wouldn't know what to do with a live mouse in her tub.

I know this is a bit random, but I kid you not my Anaconda did not like to eat off anything except for me holding the food by the tail. When I would put something that I killed or either F/T(depending on what I had at the time) in for her, she would just look at it then look at me. I would have to get it, hold it by the tail in front of her and she would come up, grab it by the head then would lay down and swallow it(wouldn't constrict it). Then I was like, omg, be yourself already, so I started to wiggle it around while holding it and then I got her to strike at it, but she would lazily throw the coils around it, then one time I just knocked the rat out and it went to move and she threw them coils, and that was it from then on. I'd just knock the rat out then dangle it in front of her.

That sounds like my Stimson's Python, lol. He just stares at the mouse/rat, opens wide, and waits for me to put it in his mouth. Seriously the laziest snake in the entire world.

Same with my Milksnake. Never struck and will only eat his food if its lightly cooked.
Tried live and he spent 24 hours cuddled with it.

    These stories make me lol.
I also have a similar story to share.

I have a young lucy rat that will not eat unless I hold onto his prey item till he swallows it half way. I've tried letting go once it's in his mouth, but he'll just drop it and then stare at me like "why did you do that?"
He doesn't even strike at it, I can enduce him to strike but he gets bored with that and returns to his lazy self..... every single time I go to feed him he'll just open his mouth and will bite the head......... BUT I have to set the mouse inside his mouth before he bites down and THEN hold onto it until he either pulls it away from me or until he's nearly swallowed it.
Idk if he and I have a bond, and trust, or if he is just plain old lazy

Well, I have to agree with you lol.
    He is indeed spoiled :P
The first time I fed him, it was just the day after I brought him home, and he behaved like that.
I can definitally say that he has the most unique personality out of all of my herps.
He acts tough, but he's such a wuss.... and there's definitally a tender side in there haha

While on the subject in a hijacked thread. I have a cali king and a milksnake that are retarded "hunters". The king will chase around prey with his mouth open if he has a hard time grabbing it and when he does, it usually winds up getting squeezed against the glass or the water bowl. Sometimes he does get lucky with a few coils if he is on his game. The milk does the same but rarely ever coils, it's all about drowning or glass squeezing. Sear they are partially brain dead. ;-)
Though I have heard that some CB animals don't develop full hunting and coiling skills.

Back on topic: That corn is gorgeous and I want it! :D:gj:
